Two scam letters requesting deposit of checks (one for $4,975.00 and one for $4,960, and payment of funds via Money Gram to Canadian addresses (445 University Ave, Halifax, NS and 64 Murray Ave, Thompson, MB, Canada). Standard Financial's letter was crude, but the Nigerian's had done a good job with the Global Financial letter and check.
These checks were drawn on First Union National Bank of North Carolina and Citibank Delaware. The ABA routing number for both checks was accurate, however, 1st Union National long ago became Wachovia.
If you receive something similar, do not even deposit the checks. They are not legitimate. At minimum you will be charged return check fees. At worst, you will send money to the Nigerians running this scam out of Canada and your bank will require you to reimburse them for the check amount.
It's beyond despicable that these vermin prey on people who can least afford to lose money on these scams - people who are unlikely or unable to research on the Internet before sending their money to rodents unable or unwilling to work for a living.
