Geico Direct is in violation of Florida law passed on 1/04. Florida law stated that if insurers run credit on applicant they must run credit on all applicants. Currently this is not the practice at Geico. A customer can call in and refuse credit if they do not want to have their credit run. By allowing the refusal of credit by one party they are in direct violation of florida law.

Jimmy, Thanks for the info. I didn't go through the law in its entirity... I just wanted to see what it basically said because it was the reason for the original posting and mostly because of Holly's rebuttal. Or rather, her tone. People get upset with me because I do rebut the "tone" of some people. To me though, it is very imortant. It can either support the position of the reporter or not. In the case of Holly, she makes it much easier to believe the the reports I have read about GEICO. Contempt for customers literally drips from her posts. If someone has misinterpreted a policy or law, then it is easy to come on her and professionally explain. Instead, Holly takes pleasure in taking personal jabs at people. I have to ask myself... and I hope that others reading this ask themselves... is it possible that Holly or someone like her would be handling my claim? Since you work in the same office, I can understand if you don't want to comment on this. I have left a couple of posts calling Holly on this and I haven't heard from her. Thanks,

Jimmy

Darren, From what I know, GEICO doesn't deny a policy based on credit. It *could* increase your rates, but I HIGHLY doubt we have ever denied a policy based on credit. (I have never heard of anyone being denied due to credit )

Here is a link to an article about the law... http://www.insurancejournal.com/magazines/southeast/2004/02/09/features/36594.htm Jimmy, from a quick look at the report, if a credit report is used to deny a policy then the company must report why. That would mean that your company would need to see all the parts of the report to be able to send it. Just saying that it doesn't meet an arbitrary number I don't think will be within the meaning of the law. If the credit report has any reflection on the policy (coverage or rates) then the specific parts must be explained. New Customers from Advertising: 5,000,001 Customers lost because of Holly: 231 Thanks,

Holly, Do you really, really, really think that you are doing your company a service by responding to the report here like that? It amazes me that people think that they are actually "helping" their company when they come on here and abuse a person making a report. I know all about free speach and all that. But, there are times when a company wants to have the right message go out. Someone claiming to work for the company and attacking on the internet is so counter-productive to what corporate is doing that it is amazing. They hire public relations people/firms for a lot of money to deal with these types of things. All that gets wasted with responses like yours. Now, that is assuming that Geico (or another company isn't letting people post here because they say what corporate really feels, advertising aside) but the company really should take an interest in something like what is going on here. Especially when this website comes to the top on Google so often when a person is looking for information concerning companies and the way they treat people. I would love to see this site used as a means to air out disagreements between the reporter and the company itself. Not the ones that come on here and abuse the people. It is entertaining and might make you feel superior... but it ain't helping anyone. And, as a side not which will allow you to ignore all the above... there are times when a company doesn't or isn't able to keep up with all state laws. I have seen this happen when a company tries to have one set salary/wage policy. There are too many conflicting laws and it is very difficult to do. So, it is POSSIBLE that sometimes things fall through the cracks. Instead of blindly attacking a reporter, it would be interesting and informative if you researched the law yourself and found what it said and why it doesn't apply. It would be nice too if the reporter posted the law so all could evaluate the validity of the report. I am not taking sides.. I am just saying that you are not helping Geico in the least with your posting. Thanks,

Hey Holly, we work in the same office Alicia, If someone refuses to have their credit run, then we can't quote an insurance policy for them (in most states). Credit is becoming a HUGE factor in rates (like Colorado). It doesn't solely determine your rates, but it definitely could be a determining factor of having preferred rates or not. Also, another thing...when we run your credit, we don't see your credit report, anything on it, or even your credit score. We don't see ANYTHING about your credit. Only the computer does and factors in the underwriting application.

Okay Alicia - Have you ever heard of something called a state insurance department. Apparently Geico just seems to be a renegade insurance company and decides to over-ride state law. Are you kidding. We've been in business since 1936, and we are heavily regulated by state law. Each person has the OPTION to refuse credit. We don't just run everyone's credit. When you decide to learn to read, it's possible that you can sit down and actually read the law, instead of sitting at home and pretending that your criminal justice class at your local community college is law school. love geico employee
