What a feeling to see all of the complaints directed at the so called company--Gateway! To hear their customer service people talk I was the first to ever complain. While I knew that wasn't true I can't tell all of you how wonderful it is to know I'm not the only sucker out there who wants to throw my gateway computer at the TV every time I hear how people rule at Gateway.

Now it's that midwest friendly feeling supposedly representing all gateway employees. Hey--I'm from the midwest--don't insult me!!! I too have had over a year of "fun" with gateway including a printer that didn't work, blatant ignoring tactics by the entire sales department after the check was cashed, a bogus tutorial with Ziff Davis which I never was able to access, and that no one at gateway or Ziff Davis ever heard of. I wonder how you can sell something you don't know exists. Hey a hundred bucks for nothing lines some "friendly" salesman's pocket I guess!. I have written to Mr. Waitt--the employees I talked to gave me the wrong spelling--Wait, so he thinks I'm the dummy I'm sure. Mr. Waitt doesn't write back. Isn't that just the cherry on top of the cake! I asked if he liked my idea of going into my local "country store" and chatting up the prospective customers like I did at a new car dealer once. It's amazing how much customer service you can get that way! Anyone want to join in? Again I agree with all of you, am appalled by the employees who wrote yet at the same time feel vindicated.

The only problem I have is with those who seem to think that only computer geniuses need "apply" for a gateway computer. I made it very clear to my salesman that I was a neophyte. That's why I why I purchased the bogus tutorial! So please reserve judgment. Those of us not in the nerd category deserve customer service too! Isn't that what friendly, professional, midwest home folks gateway is all about?

Gee from their commercials you'd think they come to the house and spend the first year there with you troubleshooting! If you're going to advertise that way--put your money (make that my money) where your mouth is! Yes, Virginia gateway SUCKS!!!

I'm really getting fed up with all the companies I have to fight with on (seems like) a daily basis! No matter what you do there's so much incompetence and apathy with even trying to please the customer, that I find myself writing to places giving me good service because they're so rare and I don't want those few to go away!

UPDATE:

I didn't buy my computer from a store. The first store in my area opened just before I bought (in January of 2000), but when I found out that they'd ship it to me either way I decided to order by phone.

My disinterested (after the check was cashed) salesman was Rodney Atkins Account Executive at 800-846-2036 ext 55464. His lamo boss who never responded to me is David Jones at 800-846-2036 ext 53676. Neither of them responded to me even after I

copied them on my letter to their CEO. Now I see that it could have been because they knew that the CEO wouldn't care either. I do have to give kudos to Brad (badge # 86429) at 888-874-7681 ext 23792.

I believe in voicing opinions about bad service but also giving credit where credit is due. Sounds like he's one in a million at Gateway, which probably means he'll have a better job somewhere else soon, if not already.

We consumers need to start

uprising when we find ourselves complimenting people for giving service we used to get all the time.

Same Problems with being ignored

For the last 8 months I have had the same problem with being TOTALLY IGNORED by Gateway. See my Rip off Report filed. Even Citicards who financed my particular computer through Gateway continues to call me twice a day for collections, add late fees monthly and has ruined my credit even though they are aware I am disputing the charges made to the account (this is illegal). After several letters and literally 100's of phone calls to My Sales Person #55210 & Customer Service, I am reporting Gateway and Citicards to My State Attorney General's Office with all the documentation. All State Attorney General Offices have consumer affairs divisions that deal with problems like this. Another suggestion is to file a complaint with the BBB since they have Gateway listed as no open complaints. I am also going to follow the advice of another rebuttal on this site and send a letter to the Banking Authorities (THANK YOU). If enough of us complain, maybe a class action suit can be filed. I'll bet Gateway will wake up and pay attention then !! And, yes, Susan I entirely agree with the lack of competence and customer service in today's business world. I myself have 3 ongoing disputes with major purchases.

Gateway promises everything to get you to buy their JUNK Now that I have I have to reboot the computer everytime I want to sign on to aol... Then every time I try to go to a web site I cannot get there.. As usual they will not respond and you canNOT get into their website to file a complaint it is always BUSY wonder why...
I would NOT recomend anyone to ever get SUCKERED into buying a Gate way again
