I have had a Gateway computer for about a year and a half now. I've been wanting to upgrade my memory for some time and that time has come. Being a fairly easy operation, I went to Comp USA to buy a memory module that fit Gateways specifications. The first one didn't work at all, and the second chip of a different brand only reads as a 16mb chip, but its a 64mb chip. So, instead of trying another brand, I figured I would call and email Gateway to see what I was missing. Here It is a week later and all I keep getting are multiple computer generated replies with answers such as "Here is a link to everything you need to know about your motherboard"... Sorry, did I have a question about motherboards, I thought I wanted to know which brand memroy module works with my computer. Well now I am stuck with a $75 dollor memory module because CompUSA will not take it back, they think I am scamming them somehow. And I still cant get an answer from Gateway because after 30 days from purchase, they only provide tech support if you pay for it. I will never buy a Gateway product again, will inform all of my co-workers, union members, family and friends about their terrible service.

It was sent by Chad at [email protected]. Gateway Customer Support? Not unless you pay for it! (#2360) ....................... Gateway Computers (Computer Dealers) 5/31/00 (Last Modified: 5/31/00) ....................... They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their name: Chad Their relationship to the company: Advocate Rebuttal: The reason they sent you motherboard information is because every motherboard has different specifications. And you NEED to know this information BEFORE you try to upgrade your computer. You can't just buy ANY memory and expect it to work. Just like you can't buy any type of tires for your car - you need to know the right size. So don't blame Gateway because you didn't educate yourself. The information about what you should buy is everywhere. You said yourself they sent you the motherboard information. READ IT.
