DO NOT BUY A FORECAST HOME!!!!!

It is very hard for me to even know where to begin. Back in October 2003, my wife and I came across a sign for a new development being built - Forecast Homes, The Boulders. We were intrigued because we were interested in the area. Everything sounded so great, we were one of the first families to purchase one of the homes in the first phase of what we were told would be approximately 20 to 25 phases. We went to contract toward the latter part of October, 2003 with a closing date of April 21st, 2005.

Now is when the fun began. For starters, we closed the end of May, 2005. The closing date was dragged out for thirteen months. Fortunately we only had to rent for three months because of the delays. Were we compensted for our troubles, not at all. We were told by the project manager and the Vice President, things happen in life. Well, I don't want to skip around so much, so I will get back to my nightmare.

During the build process, we had completed paperwork with the site foremen to have non-textured walls and were promised non-textured walls. Let's just say that we did not receive non-textured walls and were told by the higher-ups that the foreman do not have any power to make those decisions and that they were the ones that made all decisions. Well, to us that was not the end of the world, however, we were aware of one other home that received non-textured walls - go figure.

Also during the build phase, we discovered that the wrong color cabinets had been installed in our house. When I discovered this, I went to the sales trailer (because the models were not even open yet and to this date are still not open - July 10th, 2005) asked if I could take the sample cabinet door and compare it with the cabinets in the house. Well, there was a significant difference and I even photographed the sample next to our cabinets.

The next day I brought the picture of the cabinets to the foremen and explained the problem. They stated that there was something wrong and they would look into the problem. In the mean time, I also notified the sales people of the problem and that we were not willing to pay for the upgraded cabinets if they remained that way. Well, the old project manager, let's just call him Jacka** for now, basically told me that the cabinets were the color that we ordered and that was what we were getting. I explained about the photograph and he then began to tell me that the stain on the cabinets would darken over time. What a crock of Sh**, the cabinet supplier even said they had never heard of that happening before, only that if cabinets are in direct sunlight, they may yellow over time.

Well, the next day, I went to the sales trailer to see what was happening and wouldn't you know, the sample cabinet was gone and Sales did not know where it had gone. Essentially, we had to write a letter to the CEO, A. Hovnanian and get an attorney involved so that we could get what we paid for. They eventually restained the cabinets, but because the way they were done, if anything every happens to any of the cabinets we are going to have some major problems.

I do not want to bore everyone with all our problems, so I will keep it real short from now on. Our house was so messed up during our initial walk through, that we got to three pages of items that had problems and advised customer service that we were done and would reschedule the walk through after they fixed the items. Well, at our second walk through, we had the new project manager and approximately four to five site foremen. Again, not everything was corrected so we had to schedule a third walk through. During the third walk through, more of the items had been completed, but not everything. And because there had been so many people fixing items in our house, the floors were disgustingly dirty. We were promissed by our first customer service representative that all items would be completed before we moved in, so we agreed to close on the house - BIG MISTAKE!

My wife, son (ten month old - who wasn't even a thought when we signed the papers in October 2003) and I were so proud and happy that we had just gotten the keys to our new house. For starters as we walked up the driveway and walkway, we noticed the paint stains that were suppose to be taken care of. Then when we opened the door to the house, we discovered that none of the new items had been completed.

Everyday since we have moved into the house, we have had different problems arise. This has been truly a nightmare of an experience. DO NOT EVER BUY A FORECAST HOME. The upper management does not care about the homebuyers and all the inconveniences they have put us through. They only care about selling these houses.

We found out the reason for the delays with the closing of our house. Forecast tried to blame the County (Riverside) for the delays, when in fact it was Forecast who delayed the process by submitting the plans approximately thirteen times without making the requested changes from the County.

Additionally, we were given an incentive of $2000 to use the companies lender. A few phases later, we found out that they were offering people $5000 and giving away the upgraded cabinets and granite countertops aswell. When we questioned these matters, we were told that we were not entitled to anything and that it was their kindness to even offer us the $2000. Nice, real nice! That is a great way to treat a homebuyer after all the problems we have had with this house.

Again, do yourself a favor and never buy a Forecast Home. And if you are just in the early phases of the process, get out while you can and buy a home from another builder. I hope that this can help others, as I was not aware of this website until it was too late. I tried to keep this as short as possible, so I had to leave out the majority of our problems. If people wish me to go into further detail put a post up requesting and I will be more than happy to give more information.

DO NOT BUY A FORECAST HOME!!!!!

No matter what they tell you, demand what ever promises that are made be put on paper.

The first thing that I can advise you of is put everything in writing. No matter what they tell you, demand what ever promises that are made be put on paper. Secondly, send a letter to the owner of K.Hovnanian and advise him of your displeasures and send a carbon copy to Forecast corporate office. This is how I was able to get the best results. On a lighter note, things have gotten much better with the house. However, our outstanding customer service rep, like the rest of the people that were good with this company, has found greener grass else where. I can't emphasize enough how important it is for you to put all your displeasures in writing and get promises from them in writing aswell.

I read your report and I regret I haven't found this website earlier. Now is too late. I already purchased a Forecast home and it will be closed on April 21. They didn't show me the plan information and color chart before I signed; now the house turned really ugly. I have contacted Forecast but they keep ingore the problem, try to avoid the issue. I am just wondering for your update battling with Forecast and I need some suggestions. Thanks a lot!
