Fleet National Bank rip-off ..Interest Nearly Tripled! Wilmington Delaware
Imagine my outrage at discovering Fleet Credit Card Services had raised my interest rate from a fairly decent 9.90% to 27.57%! This when my account with them has never once been paid late!
After realizing what had happened, I got out all my back statements from them, and discovered this had started in November 1999-it is March 1,2000 when I see what's been going on.
Of course I called them immediately to straighten this out, only to find out they did this ON PURPOSE--based on some credit report they received from a company called TransUnion, back in Sept 1999(and I was told I was sent a letter advising me of this action, but of course if I had received it, I'd have been arguing this out with them THEN).
The person I talked to would not tell me what it was that Fleet didn't like, and said I had agreed to this when I accepted their Edvance card--not KNOWINGLY I didn't---and that they were within their rights to raise my rate even though my account with them has NEVER been delinquent! I don't see how this can even be LEGAL, and have filed a complaint with the BBB online, but heard nothing back so far.
How can a credit card company nearly triple my interest rate on an account in good standing? I want my 9.90% rate back, a credit for all the extra I've been charged, and a BIG appology from Fleet!
