I was made aware that I had to many electronic debits coming out of a savings account. I was told the account would have to be closed within the next 30 days. I changed all of my electronic debits and deposits changed to a checking account.
One of the companies started debited from the checking account earlier than arranged. This caused two bounced checks and overdraft fees. I told the bank that I had the money for the debit in the savings account but could not afford the overdraft fees. They told me the overdraft charges would continue to accrue at five dollars per day until I paid the amount of the debit and the overdrafts . The company that sent a letter to the Nichols branch and explained it was an error on thier part. The branch continued to charge the overdraft fees.
I asked that the savings account be closed and was told that was not a good idea and I should wait until the beginning of the month to make sure all my deposits were acutally deposited into my checking. They felt since I contacted Soc. Sec. myself rather than have them do it for me there was a chance that the change would not be made. At the beginning of the month all transactions went as planned except one.
Long story shortened, the branch charged me overdraft fees on the savings and stating they could not close the account until the overdrafts were paid. I was told they were watching my checking account and saw I had a deposit that day and should use that money to pay the fees. I told her I had other bills to pay. I called Columbia and got a different story. The branch worker called me a liar and said that she called Columbia and they recorded every call and had no record of my having called but she did offer the same solution to the problem as the person I spoke to in Columbia.
