First Choice Emergency Centre beside the Pizza Hut on 287 & Avondale Haslet (near the new Walmart). I just received the bill and did a bit of online research, and I should have read the online reviews before going. I just called them @ 855-694-6452 (peryourhealth.com), and Sherry (in billing) informed me that the woman that checked us in that night "should have informed us that the cost would be much higher due to the fact they are an Emergency Room facility." I thought the woman that checked us in First Choice Emergency Room Haslet was incredibly helpful and friendly, and I'm not sure she would be entirely excited that her own company just threw her under the bus. An hour and a half visit = $10,000 charge to our insurance company. I called my Insurance company (Blue Cross) about the charges, and the woman told me that this company is known for overcharging people for medical services.

From a Fort Worth Star Telegram article:

"Yet there is a growing backlash to the lucrative medical facilities, where sprained ankles, stitches and other simple procedures can cost upward of $1,000. They have drawn angry complaints on Yelp and Ripoffreport.com.And health insurer Aetna is suing two ER centers in Texas, alleging fraud." From the online review site, Yelp:

Yelp even has this warning on their website about First Choice Emergency:

Consumer Alert

We caught someone offering up cash, discounts, gift certificates or other incentives in exchange for reviews about this business. We wanted you to know because buying reviews not only hurts consumers, but also honest businesses who play by the rules. For years we have used the (((REDACTED))) off Basswood & IH35, and have always appreciated their great service with fair billing. carenow.com/Clinic/ClinicById/12

I am curious about a couple of things.

For one, why if you go to a place with the words "Emergency Room" in their name, why would you think that they would not charge "ER Rates"?  It's not like they called themselves "Joe's Doctors Office".

Not to make light of this, but really sometimes common sense has to apply.  But I guess that is what lawyers are for. After all if it wasn't for lawyers, we wouldn't have to be told that that steaming cup of coffee we get in the morning was actually hot and we need to use caution.

Oh and one other thing.  That link on the article you posted was from 2014..almost 2 years ago.
