DeFranco Asphalt Paving Contractors, Inc....Took my money & never came back to do the work...
I called Robert DeFranco for an estimate on a patio made of interlocking paving stones and received a very professional consultation and a very fair price of $7050. The first day he showed up to work he asked for $1000 to cover the gravel and the labor which I gave him a check for.
Then the job was held up while I waited for the sprinkler company to move the sprinkler system. Again, Robert Defranco showed up asking for $3000 in order to order the paving stones...still on schedule and no problems I again gave him a check and he recorded it on our "contract" and updated the balance due...Since then...he has been "on his way over" for weeks, he just somehow never gets here. Every time I call him he says "I was just about to call you", however my phone never rings. He now has $4000 of my money and I have a messy backyard and a pile of gravel.
I should have known better when on his first and only day of working here he confided in me that he does not pay his ex-wife any child support and that he likes to spend his free time in Atlantic City, but being the honest and trusting person I am I kept giving him the benefit of the doubt. He does not return my calls and I have asked him to return my money in the form of a money order or cashiers check by Friday...I better not hold my breath as I have 4 children who need me.
I don't have any references on him but I do hope that if anyone has had any type of dealings with him...positive or otherwise they will e-mail me at [email protected].
P.S. Friday has come and gone and no cashiers check or money order has been delivered. Not surprising that my phone hasn't rung either!!! I followed my attorney's advice and went to the police station to file criminal charges against him and although they filled out the paper work they basically told me there is nothing they can do as I don't have an address on Robert DrFranco. So as it stands now, he can go do the same thing to many other people and the police said it is not up to them to investigate this man, if he gets stopped for a traffic violation then the report will probably come up and then they'll have him. Wish me luck and please avoid DeFranco Paving in the Lakewood area of New Jersey too!
