Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I worked in the retail department of Consumer Depot for almost a year.  I didn't start with much of a commercial conscience, but developed one pretty quickly.  I want to tell someone, anyone that all the terrible things they hear about this company are true, and then some.

They routinely sell "refurbished" electronics they haven't tested or flat-out know don't work properly.  To insulate themselves, they provide only two-weeks to return defective products and there is never a monetary refund issued.  A consumer can only receive in-store credit at the value of the product.  The employees are also trained to argue/fight with the consumer to "prove" user error or relieve themselves of any responsibility.

While working there, I personally heard the owner's wife, Carol, say "Maybe we should start testing these things" in regards to a rash of 37" and up Sanyo flat-panel TVs being returned because they worked for less than a day after purchase.

Because their return policy is so terrible, even at face value they offer a one year, in-house, "warranty" for 20% of the cost of the item.  They are grossly underequipped to repair any electronics usually just replacing it with another item, that isn't the same as originally purchased, simply close in retail price.  An example, they offer the warranty for items like juicers knowing full well they have no one on staff who can even come close to repairing such an item.  Employees are rewarded with bonus checks for selling these useless, extra warranty.  Basically, "would you like to add 20% to your total, for a still unfair return policy."

Quick last thing, they prey on foreigners and others with a tenuous grasp of English, padding everything with fine print.  There's a lot more, but I'm done tattling for now.  Maybe I'll update soon.  Also, I feel very badly for what I did while employed there, and I apologize to anyone who has been wronged by this subversive company.

Obligatory Rebuttal from Consumer Depot, Nashville, TN

The "update" to my report on Consumer Depot's unfair dealings in Nashville, TN is wholly untue.  I'm the ex-employee who filed the report originally and someone currently employed there half-heartedly offered a description of what their actual business protocol is.  They are lying.  They have the capability and staff to fix 10% of the defective items they constantly sell.  This is a generous appraisal.  The employee who rebutted my statement is paid to do just that; managed their online feedback and try to seem like they are a benevolent retailer.  They are not.  You would be foolish to spend money there.  No one I know personally ever will.

As a member of the tech staff I can say that we do test and repair all products in house.  We have an entire department just for that.  Anything we cannot fix is sent to the manufacturer to be fixed.  Once it is returned to us we test it again before selling it.
