CompUSA Superstore

I brought in a Toshiba laptop for repair, and while I was there, I bought a new laptop for $1499. I was not given a choice, I had to buy the TAP they offer due to the "Special" price. For the first 3 months, I was on the phone with toshiba tech support constantly. They said to bring it in. The mother board was defective, and after 6 weeks, I got it back. That's when I discovered the lan wasn't working anymore. I returned it again, and the lan is on the motherboard, so it had to be replaced again.

Another 6 weeks. When I got it back, the power supply was out, and had to send it back in again. I got it back, and it was acting up again, and yet another system board was installed. I was told that if any particular part was replaced 3 times, I would get a comparable replacement. When I asked about this, I was told that the first 2 repairs were done under the manufacturers warranty, and they can only consider the system board failing as one time under the TAP. (btw, other things have gone wrong as well)

All of this was fine, but I do not to trust this computer, and I was going to sell it. Seeing that the first year was not covered under the TAP, it was logical to me that the 2 year extended warranty would begin after the manufacturers warranty. Since I wanted to sell it, I called to verify the end of the warrany.

That's when I found out that the TAP went into effect THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP!!!

I called TAP, and they gave me the runaround, saying I CHOSE to use the manufacturers warrany, and they would do nothing.

This is clearly deceptive.

This machine has been beset with problems the day I got it. I cannot tell you how many hours I have spent trying to get this thing to operate properly.

The icing on the cake is that I own a retail maintenance company, and while I was at CompUSA, I actually repaired things in their store AT NO CHARGE! I also got one of the repair tech's daughter out of a locked, running car in the parking lot. heh, so much for being a nice guy.

$349.99 for the TAP was forced on me, and it was in effect during the first year when the majority of the repairs were done. BUT they didn't use the repairs on the TAP, choosing to use the manufacturers warranty instead of TAP so they would expend any money on the repairs.

The machine is working now, but I haven't used it since the last time I got it back from the shop. It is still probably going to be sold to some poor unlucky buyer.

The least thing CompUSA could do is extend the warrany for another year since I got ripped off for the first year.

The most they could do to try to return some confindence in this customer by owning up to the warrany that I bought and replace it.
