Cicuit City in New York got me too!
On1/29/00 i purchased a Visioneer 6100usb scanner from Circuit City in Staten Island New york. I took it home, hooked it up to my computer and it did'nt work. Since I am a new pc user, I thought I did something wrong.
I then went through the materials packaged with my scanner to try and get some info. on what may be wrong. I discovered the instructions, warranty info. and A PIECE OF MAIL ADDRESSED TO A WOMAN IN NEW JERSEY.
It appears that she purchased the scanner before me and attempted to scan a piece of mail to test it and it did'nt work. She obviously returned the scanner and I bought her return.
I went back to Circuit City on 1/31/00 to return my scanner. I had told them what had happened(even showed them the piece of mail that came with my scanner). The sales person just gave me an even exchange, no questions asked.
This should not be happening. I am very dissapointed with Circuit City. I thought they were a reputable company. I guess i was wrong.
I believe there is going to be a law suit. So, if this has happened to you, hold on to your documentation and write a story like I am.
Let's not let Curcuit City take advantage of us, or someone we know.
