On 10/06/01 We purchased a HP7935 with Microsoft Windows XP. We were not told that the drivers for this computer were not ready for this computer and would not be ready until the last of October.
The latter part of October, the CD drive went out. We carried it back and they replaced the unit with one supposed to be exactly like the one we had. We had to reload all our personal stuff on it We also had to download the drivers for this computer, again. This was on November 1, 2001.
We tried to load a speech recognition program this week and it kept telling us that we needed 128 MB memory. Checking the computer, we found that, even though on the front of the computer it stated that it has 128MB memory, that it has only 112.
Today, June 4, we went back to the store in Tyler. The salesman, whose nametag said "Mike", told us it was like a car motor with 600 horsepower--that by the time it got to the wheels the horsepower would be less.
He said all computers were like that. You don't get the memory you purchase, that it is always less. If this is true, then they are selling them under false information.
He agreed to sell us a Memory Master Upgrade kit for 1/2 price. We paid 16.23, but we feel we should not have been charged. He also said they would demonstrate to us on one of their computers how to install it.
He turned us over to a young man who was very polite and took our money, but stated that he did not know how to install this. He contacted a salesperson named Darrell. By the way, he was the only person employed that could do this we were told.
Darrell was busy with another "customer" for about 20 minutes, maybe more. We overheard the conversation and he was discussing fishing with this lady. She had tried to walk away a few times and he would begin another conversation with her.
The young man contacted him a couple of times that we were waiting. He just kept on with his conversation, he knew we were waiting and just did not want to be bothered with us.
We left the store and needless to say will never purchase anything from Circuit City Stores again and thought this needed to be brought to the attention of someone else.

The fact of the matter is the person that stated that 16 MB of memory that as allocated to the video card was right that happens to all the computers, the computer does have 128 MB of memory it's just that ( as it was stated before) 16 mb was set for the onboard video card another thing you never go by softwares min requirments cause the program my not run if you do, and as for the person that sayed that XP requires 16 MB to run your wrong it actually requires 128 mb min to run, you should do research before you post anything, as well as the person that bought the computer next time do some research before you go out and purchase something it makes it easier on everyone the salespeople, us( cause we don't have to hear the hot air), and everyone else

Actually it is possible to have 112 Mb if you have more than two DIMM slots. For three memory slots, you could have 64-32-16Mb. For four memory slots, you could have 64-32-16-0Mb, 64-32-8-8Mb, 64-16-16-16Mb, or 32-32-32-16Mb. Generally speaking, this would not happen in a new computer. Megan(sp?) is probably right; Tom probably has 128Mb with 16Mb reserved for on-board video. You can check with Sysinfo or the memory check at bootup.

Tom- You weren't ripped off. The worst that was done to you was that things weren't explained well. When you buy software, you need to have a certain amount of memory available to run it. It differs with different programs; some require more, some require less. Yours required 128 MB of AVAILABLE memory (the "available" part will be important soon, that's why I capped it). You'd need more than 128 MB of memory on your computer to run software requiring that much memory. This is because the operating system software requires memory to run, and that is running any time your computer is on. My guess is, your OS requires 16 MB; that's why it said you only had 112. It's not a ripoff; your computer has 128 MB of memory (it's impossible to have only 112), but your OS is using 16 MB of it, so you only have 112 available. If you want to run software that requires 128 MB of available memory, you have to upgrade your memory. They gave it to you for half price; I'd say you got a deal, not ripped off.

Your system did come with the 128Mb as advertised. The problem is that 16Mb of that space was allocated for the video memory and unavailable for the operating system. This design is meant to reduce costs for the manufacturer since they don't have to spend as much for a full featured video card with its own onboard memory. I know of several PC companies that do this, HP being one. If you need higher performance graphics you can disable the motherboard video controller (in BIOS) and buy a video card to add to your system. That would free up that 16MB of memory.

my name is darrell. i don't appreciate that this customer dealing with a different sales counselor doesn't allow me to give my customer the same customer service. ....fishing talk or otherwise that i would provide them with. wait in line and i'll get to you. don't characterize me as walking away from them as ignoring them. there is a word that would describe this customer.....egocentric. i bet i'm not the only person he's mad at.
