My husband for Christmas bought me a Canon Powershot A50 digital camera for a gift from Best Buys. He was told all that was needed was included in the box. The box showed a nice camera, case and batteries. Shortly afterwards we realized the camera did not have all included and preceeded to buy the extras. Unfortunately I could not find any store that carries them either. We were then told from Best Buys we only have 14 days to return the camera if we decide too and will be charged 15% "restocking fee" for this. Come on, how hard is it to put it on a shelf. $60.00 worth. I decided to call Canon myself to find out where the accessories may be purchased in my area and was told the only place to buy the needed accessories is though them. Is this fair to now have to pay top dollar plus shipping and handling, purchase the merchandise sight unseen from only them.... Is'nt this a monoploy? Needless to say I'll never buy another Canon product or shop at Best Buys again. Be aware that they may have the best buys in town but you'll pay out your nose if there's a problem.

It is common policy anywhere to charge a restocking fee on returned open items. Best buy now has to sell the returned camera to someone else at a discounted price. They probably discounted the camera at least the 60.00 they charged you in order to resell it to someone else. If they didn't do this than there would be someone on Rip-Off Report here complaining that they bought a Canon camera that was opeed at full price. Like I say just about anywhere you go for cameras, camcorders, laptops and other various product they will charge a restocking fee upon return. You would also get charged that same restocking fee if you returned say a tv without a remote, or a vcr without a box or instruction manual. It is because the company now takes a hit on the amount they can charge for the used product. That is the companies biggest lose of revenue and margin is due to returned products sold as open items. They lost somewhere around 40 million last year alone in returns
