My daughter age 14 worked weekends for months at a local stable , vey hard dirty work catching, tacking up horses. , cleaning, and more. She saved every cent to buy a new computer as I could not afford to buy one.

I took her to Best Buy in Brandon Fl. She wanted a laptop but we do not have wireless in our area and we couldnt afford the 400.00 Verizon wireless service deposit, although we have Verizon phone service for years they required a additional 400. deposit.

The laptops were on sale for 400. but we had to pick a tower instead. She had less than 500. We notice a H.P. with a discount ticket, it stated it was a floor model, included key board, mouse, and geek squad boot discs, the savings was approx 200.00 according to the ticket inf. . I later discovered the savings was only 60.00.

6 months pass, it freezes up then blacks out , I tried the "boot disc". from their geek squad, the machine said they we not the correct disc.

I took it to best buy , the manager "Mike" states the boot disc were not included with the computer although I had the org. tag in my hand, stating they were included.along with the mouse, & keyboard. He refused to service the computer until I bought new boot disc from H. P., at my expense of course. Which I bought from H.P. as requested. The H P is still under warranty until May 2009.

New disc arrive , I tried to install, the computer had message 'improper disc".

I took it to 3 Oaks, {a professional computer repair service , sales, and also my internet server 3oaks.com}I was told they couldnt fix it due to there was not a vista reg. sticker ID. on computer . I never noticed when we bought it as our old 98 HP had a book with the reg. sticker on it. so

I assumed the "geek squad" disc contained all that inf. I notified "Mike"the manager of the missing Vista sticker , he said there was nothing he could do. I showed him the sale tag again,I pointed out it came with Vista, he said call HP. H.P said to walk me through the disc. problem, I told them I would have another tech "Janet" call back and do it as one had to go inside the computer , unplug things, reinstall, , way beyond my talent .

"Janet' found old files and previous ownership, old programs, user name William. I contacted manager Mike again, he said it very vocal that he was not going to exchange this computer although it was sold as a floor model. We had proof it was pre owned. he very loudly stated he was not going to do anything, leave it for 4 weeks with new disc {orded and paid for by me}, and they would look and see if it was a warranty chargeable problem. or call HP.

Janet called HP, a code purple appeared , the HP person sent a Fex Ex truck to return it for repair or replace, Janet reassembled computer , I put it in the car. It remained in the car for 3 days then I boxed it outside on the hood of the car, drove to the next town to catch him at his last stop. Shipped it to HP.

Rec. email from HP stating rec. and repaired, to be re shiped.2 days later Rec. email from HP stating they would not fix it and cancelled warranty due to rodents or insects. I emailed HP , they claim there was evidence of rodents or insects, I told him that computer was pre owned and reminded them of Best Buys display model which is pre owned by "william". issue which was on HP record. Told him the computer case was removed at 3 oaks for service. Went from 3 oaks. to my car into Janets, case removed, unit vacumed and worked on it online with Hp for a very long time, more than 1 session. back to my car straight to Fex Ex.to HP.

Janet had a 3 way call with them, testified to HP there were no bugs or rodents. They cancelled our warranty. Returned our computer dead with "code purple" , I later found out 'code purple was a H P defect , they are aware , type code purple + h.P. into google . check it out. my daughter was left with a dead computer , cant reload Vista , must have sticker #.

Janet installed a new Vista I had to buy it , still have the usless HP disc I had to buy ,

I knew better, when my daughter was 5 yrs old she had $20.00 birthday money from Aunt Von,she bought a Snow White movie from Best Buy lakeland Fl. {40 miles away} She pd. , she had her bag and reciept "like a big girl". The movie didnt play , we drove back, she didnt have her reciept although the same cashier was still there Best Buy wouldnt exchange the new movie, I was very angry , went across the street and was buying one from Circuit City, told them what happened , they exchanged it for her, Best Buy gained the profit due to ripping off a child, Circuit took the loss of the sale for the benefit of a child. I knew better. It will never happen to us again, we boycott them and tell our story exposing Best Buy to perhaps save someone else from the loss we experienced.

multiple people were at fault. Best Buy does not sell open box HP's anymore. so that desktop should not have been sold to you in the first place. next it is your fault for not checking to see that the Vista product key sticker was on the box. HP's dont come with boot discs, they require that you make your own. so for Geek Squad to make them was probrably where some of the savings came from. The manager at that particular store REALLY handled this situation extremely bad. He should of just taken the loss and either do whatever it took to fix the computer, or given you a new one.
