On April 18th I went to the Bank of America (B of A)on 44th Street and Thomas in Phoenix, AZ. I was there to cash my payroll check that was drawn on a B of A account.

The first time I approached a teller, I was told that the only acceptable piece of identification (id) I presented was an Arizona Driver's License.

I accepted that and went home to retrieve more id. I collected my birth certificate, marriage certificate, and social security card.

The second time I was informed that none of the documents I brought were acceptable. The teller stated that this was a NEW policy.I insisted on seeing a supervisor; again re-stated that these documents were unacceptable.

I then insisted on seeing a manager. After a long wait, I tried to explain that I do not have credit cards and was not interested in opening an account. I only wanted my payroll check, cashed.

The women explained that the presented documents were "only little piece of paper", I pointed out that the documents were original, with the original baby feet prints.

She then said "If I do this for you, I will have to do it for everybody" and you are not a customer.

Rebuttal:
I am a former employee of Bank of America, Iam however, NOT a supporter of this company. As far as the teller telling you this was a new policy, she was more than likely telling the truth.

Being a teller there was hell, one week we would be able to accept a Social Security card as a second form of I.D., the next week the Regional office would tell us that we no longer
accept them, only to turn around two weeks later and tell us that they were once again acceptable. And more than once I sat there and listened to the manager ask the customer, "Well why don't you just open an account with us, then you would only have to show one I.D."

I would definately discourage anyone that is thinking of opening an account at Bank of America to reconsider, their customer service is terrible, their rates on a simple checking account are sky high, and over all they practice just plain bad business.

I'm not sure about how the banks in AZ are run, they were in a totally different region that the one I worked in in VA, but I know that BofA's in CA and VA are about as bad as they come.
