I got road runner service back in June at which time I cancelled my AOL service, but they can't seem to find any record of my doing so.

I have been billed twice for 23.90 in August and September. I cancelled again upon finding the charge on my account again.

This second cancellation I was sure to get a confirmation number since my word was not good enough for these people.

I am out 47.80 because I did not know my e-mail address on AOL was part of the service unlike Yahoo. There is no charge for my Yahoo e-mail, how was I to know AOL was any different?? And to charge me full monthly service fee as well.

Get that confirmation number and save it.

You have to get a confirmation number, in order to verify the canecellation with your credit card company. It is very important that you remember the email you had with them in order to cancel your account. I would also recommend collecting a refund for those months, unrequested which you did not use. IF they claim it is not possible to determine your use of their service during those past 2 months, it's a lie. Demand a refund, and tell them, if they believe you used their service, then they have to give you a LOGGING record of your time spent online. If they are unable to produce this evidence, the refund has to be granted. There may be another term for "logging record", but you know what I mean. They do this ALL the time. People cancel and they tack on 2 or 3 months of service against the persons wishes. I don't know if you paid through your credit card, but if so, go through your dispute department to handle it. This is the department which handles refunds to your account. You might locate them through a theft hotline posted on your bill. Change all or any account numbers they might have in their records, to prevent further unauthorized charges. Save that confirmation number, because they might just try again, later on down the road. You already have their phone number, so here is their address: America Online, Inc. 22000 AOL Way Dulles, VA, 20166 You might end up writing to them, if the issue cannot be resolved by phone. Your credit card will NOT be able to help you without a "confirmation number". It is NOT official until you get that number. Hope this helps. Consumer Advocate Rip-off Report Volunteer
