We were in desperate need of a washer since ours broke down and we have 4 teenagers plus ourselves to do laundry for. On 3/20/08 my husband and I went to ABC Warehouse in Mt. Pleasant, MI to pick up a washer that was advertised on their website as a clearance item that was being discontinued. Prior to driving to Mt. Pleasant from Midland - I negotiated a price of $425 out the door.

When we arrived - we were looking the machine over. The salesman (Mick) had mentioned the scratches on the top of the machine were from customers setting things down on top of it. I had noticed for being a discontinued floor model - there were no instruction manuals in the tub. I opened the door of the machine and it appeared to be used. I then opened the soap/fabric/bleach dispenser door and it was CAKED with soap and fabric softner! I said "What? This machine has been used in someone's house!!!" The salesman said "I had no idea this machine was used."

He then went to the store manager (Dallas) to ask him what the story was. Mick came back and informed us that the machine was a warranty return (which didn't seem to be adding up). I looked at my husband and shook my head. I told Mick I did not come all this way to purchase a "used" machine. I came to purchase what was advertised - a discontinued floor model." He said he understood - but it did come with a 1 year manufacturer warranty. We were still hesitant to purchase since it was used.

Mick went back to Dallas and asked what else they could do. He looked at a few other "new" models and tried to work out something with them - which was going to cost more! I reminded him we had only the amount we negotiated over the phone.

He went back to Dallas and exchanged a few words, then came back to us and said he would sell it to us for $400 out the door and reminded us that it has a 1 year manufacturer warranty AND we could purchase an extended warranty.

My husband and I talked it over and decided what the heck - it comes with a warranty, we can purchase an extended warranty and just bleach the heck out of it to clean it from being used. So - we decided to purchase it.

We got the machine home and used it for roughly 2 weeks before I had to place my first service call on it. It made an awful noise when it was running and it shook so bad - it shook the dispenser door open. The service tech came out to the house the next day. He looked the machine over and said they do shake quite hard and the noise didn't present itself while he was there.

That same evening when I got home from work - I put a load of laundry in. My son called me into the utility room to show me water all over the floor. The machine was leaking horribly. The next morning I placed another service call.

The service tech came out and found a cardboard lid from inside a soap lid in an area that kept the water from going in to the tub. I know for a fact that wasn't from our family because we use the huge containers of soap with a dispenser.

Roughly 4 days later (on a Saturday) I noticed the clothes weren't spinning out and were soaked at the end of the wash cycle. I could squeeze the clothes and water would come gushing out. So - I used the spin only cycle to find THAT didn't work either! I called a few ABC stores around our area and they all said if this machine is that useless - it will more be replaced with one of the same value ($7-800). REMEMBER - we were told there was a 1 year manufacturer waranty and I told the other stores that too!! So I was told to make sure I called the warranty place first thing Monday morning. So - no laundry got done over the weekend.

I called first thing Monday morning for a service tech to come out. I waited until after noon and called the service place myself to find out why they hadn't called to make an appointment yet. I was informed they were waiting for ABC corporate to call them before they could send someone out. I asked why and I was informed their first two requests for payment for previous service calls were REJECTED - THERE WAS NO WARRANTY COVERAGE ON MY MACHINE!!!!!!!

I called the Maytag store in Saginaw that evening to see if there was anything I could find out. They gave me another number to call to find out if the machine was registered with Maytag and what the history was on it. I found out that the machine was previously owned since November of 06 and that owner had placed 4 service calls on it in less than 1 year (4/23/07, 9/12/07, 10/9/07 and 10/15/07). The last 2 service calls they made were 6 days apart!

Maytag said when a machine is replaced under warranty - ABC is supposed to send the machine back to them - not put it back out on the floor after ABC's people fix it.

I have called the store manager, his manager, the regional manager only to be told they are sorry and they will refund my money or give me a credit towards something else and if it was more we would have to pay the difference. I have a "hardline" in to Jim Suida which is over all of Michigan only to hear nothing from him. I am livid! First of all - I was told there was a warranty (which is the ONLY reason we bought it since it WAS used) and if it couldn't be fixed - it would be replaced. Now - all I can get is my money back! What happened to replacing it with another model of the same $7-800 value?

I am taking this to small claims court with all of my documentation.

As someone else said - if you want to buy something and expect it to work and if by chance something happens and you want the warranty honored - DO NOT BUY FROM ABC WAREHOUSE!!!!!!

Yeah, I have the exact same issue. I bought a laptop from the Bay city store and I know it was used. When I called the manufacturer they tried telling me that I had three months left on the warranty and this was after three months of owning it. I can't get through to these people at all. They lied to me and at first blamed me for the misuse saying it was brand new, now they are saying it was a floor model. They won't give me my money back or a store credit. I want the laptop replaced (it's been broken virtually the whole time I've had it, even after being fixed by HP), and they are saying that even if they replaced it I'd have no warranty left on it then. I am supposed to have three years worth of warranty. I just bought it!! They want me to pay them in essence for what I should have gotten to begin with?! I am so livid with these people. Is there anything that we can do to fight back? Stores shouldn't be able to get away with this kind of stuff. Please, someone has to know something that can be done.
