In early 1999 my son joined 24 Hour Fitness in Carrollton, TX. After 2 months, he was transferred to Austin by his work. Scott Penny went into the facility, asked that his membership be put on hold. They continued drafting my account since he did not have a bank account. Two months later, I went into the facility, asked to transfer the account to my name - no, that wasn't allowed. I then asked that they put his membership on hold - no that wasn't allowed. The membership has now expired. They are still drafting my account. I called the facility - referred to the corporate office. Corporate office says I have to physically send my bank statement so they can see the charge and the account no. They do not show a Scott Penny on their records - obviously they have him somewhere since they continue to draft $31.95 a month. I've gotten the same information twice. 24 Hour's recorder says they will return telephone calls within 72 hours - wrong; called twice, left my name and no., no return phone call. The recording suggests I try to WWW and they will respond - wrong - they did not respond at all, let alone within 72 hours. Please help. Thanks, Mary Penny 972 718 4179 (work) [email protected] (member's name is Randy Scott Penny - 12/5/61 birthdate).

I worked for 24 Hour Fitness for about 2 years as both a front desk associate and as the Assistant Fitness Manager for the Trainers. If you are having difficulty with corporate finding your name (or your son's) insist that they look it up by phone number, address, birthday, and partial names with wildcard characters (like an *). 9 times out of 10, the sales counselor that signed you up misspelled your name, and thats why corporate can't find it. Also, the only person who can cancel the membership is going to be the one who's name is on the account; regardless of who's bank account the money is being drafted from (unless you have a power of attorney, even then its tough). Sad, but true. When you call corporate, don't hang up, no matter how long they leave you on hold. Its a trick that they use so that less people end up canceling their membership. Always ask for a confirmation number when they assist with something, always get their name. If they are unhelpful, ask for their supervisor. Keep going up the food chain. Hope this helps!
