I purchased a Univision Mastercard prepaid debit card today and loaded it with $20.  On the front of the package it clearly stated the purchase fee was $2.95 so at the point of sale I paid a total of $22.95.  When I got home I activated it and found the balance was only $14.05.  When I spoke to an operator he said that an additional fee was added for $5.95.  I told him that the card package clearly stated that the puchase fee was $2.95 and was it's deceptive to tack on hidden fees not shown on the front packaging - making the total actual cost $8.90.  FYI I understand that if you leave a balance on a card for a long while, they'll deduct fees but I've never had any pre-paid card (excpet this one) tack on a steep fee IMMEDIATELY at the point of sale.  I told the operatior this was a scam and openly deceptive and he couldn't even be bothered to apologize for the 'inconvienence'.

Next when I tryed to use the card online it wouldn't work because the first and last name of the cardholder aren't set.  So I went to the Univision Mastercard website and entered the card number multiple times to no avail.  It always came back as invalid.  So I call the operater again to ask that he set the card holder name.  He went on to ask for increasingly suspicious information that was supposedly 'required' to just set the card holder name.  Info like a moble with texting, email and then social security.  No way I was going to give my SS out to this fraud of a company so I told him that I purchased the card for online and I won't be giving out any highly sensitive info to get it to work for the purpose it's intended for.

So unless you feel like giving Univision $8.90, along with your mobile & email so they can spam you, and your social security number,

I recommend AVOIDING this company.
