United Airlines Damaged my new suitcase. Chicago Illinois

Got into DCA around 2330 on Tuesday after flying with United. When we got home an hour later my daughter noticed that the top corner of my luggage was smashed in, and she took a photo.
I immediately called the airline, and they said I would need to return to the airport, which is over an hour away! Ridiculous! I would not recommend flying on this airline at any price!!
