I lost my income in Nov. and have gone through my savings just to keep my mortgage and car current. I have been communicating with several different people from Robinson's May. Tonight I received a call from a customer service rep named Joanne. She wanted to know where my $42 payment is. I said that I agreed only to make that payment if my friend could loan me the money. I informed her that my friend could not as she was having financial problems of her own.

She asked if she could call and talk to her. I said no at first and told her I felt uncomfortable with that. Finally I relented and gave her the number to my friend so she could, what I was led to believe, just confirm that she indeed did not have the money to loan to me. However, when Joanne called her, she told my friend that she and I had agreed that my friend would give her a post dated check, and to let me know that I now only had to pay $21 each month.

My friend called me and told me what she did and I nearly cried. Joanne had misled my friend about the agreement and she misled me about why she wanted to talk to her. My friend even told her that she had no money in the bank to cover the check.

Joanne insisted and said it will be dated for Jan.22 and probably will not go through for 4 or 5 days. I tried to call her back as soon as I found out, but they were already closed for the evening. My friend said she did not think they could call people after 8p.m..

Now, I have to come up with $42 that I don't have or $25 to stop payment on a check that this Joanne dishonestly got my friend to give her. I am going to call them 1/22 at 8 a.m. PST and tell someone what has happened to see what I can accomplish before I start calling people to see if I can borrow money. This is so appalling I can't imagine how she could possibly get away with this kind of tactic.

Dear Jonah, I suggest you not be so judgemental. Because somebody has fallen on hard times does not mean they are a deadbeat. I have a card with Robinson's May, and the ONE time I was late,my father had a heart attack and I was in the hospital with him. Robinson's May called like 3 days after...they can be pretty obstinate.

"I said that I agreed only to make that payment if my friend could loan me the money." You are upset that they called your friend but you are the one who dragged her into this. What you really agreed to was to pay your bill on time. I have a Rob/May card and I don't recall being offered the special arrangement you got. "This is so appalling I can't imagine how she could possibly get away with this kind of tactic". Like being a deadbeat and then claiming you were ripped off is somehow on the up-and-up?
