Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I had $19.04 deducted from my checking account which was unauthorized. This restaraunt is in FL and I live in MI.

I have not given anyone permission to use my account so this is stolen money. I expect to get it back and never see or hear of your company again.

Not sure I will be eating at a Pizza Hut or Wendy's any time soon if at all. I am highly upset and cannot believe that you let this happen.

I know you are upset and I am not going to minimize what happened, but at the same time you need to take a step back and deal with this in a rational manner.

First contact your bank and dispute the charge.  Most likely they will cancel the card and send you a new one to avoid any future charges.  To make a claim on the funds they will probably ask you a few simple questions such as do you have the card in your posession, have you ever been there...etc.  These are NOT to accuse you of anything so don't take it that way.  These are standard questions they ask everyone.

When you contact the bank don't go off on some huge rant like you did here.  Just tell them you want to dispute a fraudlent charge you did not make and they will take it from there.  If you go off "half-cocked" you will spend a lot of extra energy and time you don't need to.

I will also say to do this immediatly if you have not already.  As very often people that do this run a few "small" charges through to see if the card will actually work.  If it does they start to go for more expensive purchases.  So the sooner you call the less fraud you have to deal with.

Next, it is VERY unlikely that this is any widespread identity theft issue, but more of a case where someone made a duplicate of your existing card.  So while probably not really necessary in this situation, as a matter of practice you can pull your credit report to see if there are any different accounts.  If nothing shows up you are probably okay and again could file a police report but in the end it is probably not needed in this case.

As for this company, they are really not to blame.   As there is really no way for them to know if the card is good or not other than it going through the authorization and getting approved.  Now of course they ask for ID but that is against the policy of the credit card companies.  Even so if a person made a duplicate of your card and put their name on it..that wouldn't matter anyways.  You say you are in MI and this was in FL.  Well guess what..people travel all of the time.  If I had my card declined everytime I left my area I would be totally upset at the bank. Reasons like this is why there is a dispute process you can follow.

I am not going to tell you to boycott them or not, that is something you need to decide on.  But I will tell you that if you do this is sort of like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.  And it could have been any store or restuurant.

Check your credit reports.  Go to FTC.gov and look up the steps as to handle ID theft.  One of the first things you need to do is file a police report on the theft - even though it is a very small charge.  It could be someone at the places you mention or a customer that purchased food there and used your debit card. Handle it quickly to prevent more fraud. Good luck.
