Midway Auto Team - Phoenix, AZ. / Aka Midway Pontiac - GMC ripoff screwed treated like a third class citizen f@%ked ripoff liars victimized us Phoenix Arizona ......

Well, to start, Midway advertised a new 2003 GMC Sierra full size pickup truck (stock #512527c) for $13,995.00 after manufacturer rebate of $2500.00 and a "Midway Discount" - of course, not including apllicable taxes, fees, etc. I called and they only had 1 available. This was on 2/28/2003. I went down that evening to look at the truck. I already had my mind made up that I was going to get it. So, before I go any further, let me also point out that I work for a company that is a General Motors supplier which thus entitles me to buy any new GM vehicle at cost + 6%. My salesman went and "talked to his manager" and came back and assured me that the advertised price was a better deal than this since the sticker price was just a little over $20,000.

So, I was ready to close the deal as with it being the last day of the month the rebate would expire the next day and there was no guarantee that it would be $2500 for March. After a lot of time, I ended up in the finance dept. which harrassed me until 10 p.m. that night (they close at 9) wanting me to "buy" all the extras (GAP insurance, theft protection, etc.). Let me also point out that I told them before they ran my crdit report that it was far from "perfect" - approximately a 630 credit score at the time and that I had a child support obligation (which is taken from my check every week) - so yes, my credit is not perfect. However, it is no excuse for how I was treated. Read on...

I signed the deal - 72 months @ $372 a month after the $2500 rebate and $1000 cash down payment from me. I got my keys, temp. tag, papers, etc. "Carlo" (in the finance dept.) was their representative at this point. The next day, "Angel" called me back and insisted that I come back (a 30+ mile trip one-way for me) because he had "landed me a better deal". I drove up again that evening, was made to wait almost an hour (even though they knew what time I'd be in and I was on time) - and the loan papers and all of the paperwork was "re-signed" - this time 72 months @ $344 a month. Considering my credit, I was content with the lower interest rate they had "gotten" for me. It was to be financed through Triad Financial now (not the same co. as the first time I signed the papers). This was on March 1st.

So now - fast forward to 3/21/2003. I received a letter in the mail from Triad Financial stating the loan was "denied" and to contact Midway Auto Team immediately, which I did. It was 8:55 p.m. that night and I spoke with Doug Hill. He asked me to call back Monday morning 3/24 @ 9 a.m. because he could not find my name in his system. (This letter was dated 3/17.) I called him back that Monday morning @ 9:15 a.m. Doug said he would call me back. To make a long story short, no one from Midway ever contacted me - I initiated every phone call from here on. I got every excuse you could hear from everyone else who answered the phone - "he's not in", "he's with another client", "he's in a meeting", "he comes in later today", "he's already gone for the day", etc. -

I left a lot of messages! (in addition to many times being put on perpetual hold - 10 mins. or more - until I gave up). Finally, come that Friday 3/28 after many a phone call (most of which were from my cell phone) "Angel" answered the phone and explained that being denied a loan after the papers were signed "happens all the time" and that they were working diligently on it. He would call me back ASAP. I asked him "what if you can't get the same terms ($344 per month @ 72 months) on this re-approval you're working on?" He said at that point I'd be under no obligation to re-sign the contract and I could give them the truck and get my $1000 back. Well, Monday 3/31 came around and still no phone call.

I contacted my salesman - Ron Kitchell - who said that he would get this straightened out. I was told to call the finance dept. manager - Toby - the next day, which I did. Toby listened to my situation and passed me back to Angel who said he'd call me back within the hour. He did (much to my surprise) and said the loan was re-approved with a different lender and if I would come in and re-sign the papers AGAIN. I asked him "are the terms the same? $344 a month @ 72 months?, and he said "yes". I made an appointment for that Wednesday 4/2/2003 and arrived promptly.

I was made to wait in one room, moved to another, and Angel hastily appeared - didn't greet me or anything - printed everything up, passed it over the desk to me, and very rudely said "hurry up and sign here!". The first I noticed was that now we were at $400 a month @ 72 months! I was FURIOUS! I pointed out to him what he said over the phone and refused to sign. He left the room, and reappeared with Doug. Doug began to give me a speech about how they were already losing money on the deal and how unaware they were of my credit situation! I told them that was no excuse for lying to me to get me in there (about the terms of the deal). I told them to just give me my $1000 back and I would give them the keys to the truck which I had driven up there. Doug and Angel proceeded to tell me that they weren't in the business of returning used vehicles and that I was stuck with it as because of how long I had had it up to now. I reminded Angel that also was not what he said on the phone.

Doug butted in and said "well, if you had talked to me I wouldn't have told you the terms were the same and I certainly wouldn't have told you that you could just return the truck!" (This coming from the same person I could never get ahold of before!) They both left the room at this point saying "let me see what I can do." Angel returned with 72 months @ $375 per month. I still could not believe they could get away with this. I told him to let me read the paperwork over for accuracy and even though this was not what was promised, I would sign it. He said "can you hurry it up? I've got other customers to take care of!". He left the room and I stood up to look out the window in the direction of where I had parked the truck. They had blocked it in with other vehicles. I noticed Doug standing out of eyeshot from where I was sitting in this office talking to another employee. He was commenting to them about how long this was taking and how (to quote) "hard that he was f***ing me" on this deal! They were laughing about it! Angel came back within a minute and said "so - are you going to sign it or what?". I told him to give me a little more time. He then got Doug into the room again who said to me "look - this is as good as it gets. You won't get a better deal and we won't take the truck back unless you want to forfeit your $1000".

I signed my paperwork and left. They had moved the vehicles blocking my truck at this point. Now after the fact and unsuccessful attempts to get GM involved, I have found that the purchase price should have been much less. I still can't believe that GM does not better regulate who sells their vehicles to them and how. I have tried many times to contact Midway Auto Team's "Customer Relations", the owner, the manager, and I have only had the option to leave messages on voice mail which I still have not to date had a return telephone call yet.

Thus the reasoning for my rant. Not only was I lied to once - and deceived - to come back and re-sign, but I was lied to about the terms of the loan. I was lied to about if I was not satisfied with the terms I could return the vehicle and get my $1000 back. I was lied to about the purchase price. But most of all, it is being made to feel like a "lower than dirt" person because of the finance dept's. treatment of people like me. It is entirely unexcuseable. And - you know - I would have probably let it go. But yesterday I got a letter in the mail - a "Dealer Questionaire". Let me quote some of it...

"Unfortunately, sometimes we goof, let things slip through the cracks, or just fail to live up to our own desires and expectations. If we ever fail to live up to your desires and expectations, please call the appropriate department head." (Dept's. and names are listed below this.) So, again I tried to contact them. One of the names I was told is not even an employee with them anymore. Still, no return phone calls. But wait, there's more...

"Both Ron Kitchell and I (Jeff McConville - New Car Director) appreciate your business. If you were not completely satisfied with any aspect of your buying experience, I would be quite interested in hearing the reasons why."

So - Mr. McConville - above are my reasons. I'm still waiting for a phone call. I'll fill out your survey with the same info. as above. Maybe I'll actually get a response from someone who cares rather than a form letter. But if you read this, be advised I will make sure my experience goes beyond what you read here. I will send this to anyone that will listen - be it The Better Business Bureau, The State of Arizona, anyone. The part that kills me is your catch phrase that I continue to see everywhere - in print in your ads, on my paperwork, etc. - "We'll Treat You Right!" - Yeah, whatever. This alone should be deemed false advertising. I'll be waiting.
