Went to Midas for an oil change and tire rotation. The next day, I heard a noise each time I braked to a full stop. Took the car back to Midas. they told me I needed new brake pads and rotors. Cost $375.
When I told them they had replaced the brake pads just months earlier, they told me ok, the charge would be only $325 for the rotars. (Even though I paid much more than $50 for the brake pads months ago.)
I had a suspecious feeling about the brake repaires because nothing the manager said made any sense to me. So I took my car to be evaluated by another car mechanic. The new car mechanic called me back, told me there was nothing wrong with my brakes, but that someone had looseded the lug nuts on my front wheers. (Remember Midas had done a tire rotation the day before). the new mechaic told me the lug nuts were so loose I was lucky not to have had an accident. He replaced the lug nuts for $39. My car brakes were fine and have been fine ever since. I believe Midas intentionally lied to me about needing new brakes, and I believe Midas intentionally loosened the lug nuts to motivate me to bring the car back to them for unneeded repairs.
