In April 2009 I registered for a class with Langua World. After receiving my payment, Sandrine Samperi immediately canceled the class stating there were not enough students.

I had previously told Ms. Samperi that it was vital that I start classes immediately as I was leaving for Paris in 4 weeks.

After inquiring about the FULL cost of the course and paying that amount, Samperi asked for more money for books over $125 for books. This is really unacceptable for a short 4-week beginner class and she never mentioned this during registration.

When I told her I would cancel, she initially said there was a 'no refund' policy, and then she pointed me to a refund policy on learnFrenchNewYork.com. (I had never been to that site but had inquired and paid my money to Languaworld.com). When I pointed out that the refund policy stated I was due a refund because the class hadn't started, she backed away from that policy and said she would start the class within days. Even still, although the refund policy was from a different website than that which I dealt with, even that policy would have granted me a refund. She was clearly deceptive and then when her own policy didn't suit her, she ignored it entirely.

I gave her several chances to simply refund my money and even agreed to allow her to take 6% fee for the amount PayPal would charge to refund the money. She refused.

She then marked my emails as SPAM and cut off all communication.

I filed a case with the Small Claims Court in Manhattan and on 6/22/09 I received a judgment for my full tuition, my court costs and interest on the money due.

Despite being notified of the judgment, Ms Samperi has still not paid the money and I am now in contact with the city Sheriff to have him collect the debt. If you receive a judgment against this company, note that you may be entitled to triple damages the specifics are on the court documents and the small claims website.

I have also filed a complaint with the New York Department of State to have Langua World's business license canceled.

I have also filed a complaint with the better business bureau. Sadly I did not look this company up but if you do you will see they have several complaints, all for not starting classes.

I am also sending a copy of the judgment to PayPal.

I have over 32 email correspondences with this company with details on how they encouraged me to enroll and then within two minutes of receiving payment, canceled the class. The emails also show that she attempted to collect the tuition amount in cash to avoid sales tax. After the court papers were filed, she claimed to only be a teacher; however, if you look at MySpace and other websites, she claims she is the CEO or SEO of the company. Be careful because she plays between the websites of Languaworld.com and learnfrenchnewyork.com.

Ms. Samperi is most untrustworthy in business and overall not a nice person to deal with.

My complaints, and others, are not from ABC.  They represent real complaints about sandrine who stole money, had police called to the school, and was wanted by the sheriff before running back to France.  I'm glad you had a pleasant experience but  not all of us have and Sandrine is not a respectable business woman -- hence her current attempt at a gofundme page -- she is still  scamming.

Here another proof she is alive and well and recovered from any illness she might have had. Of course, no-one should wish someone to be sick, but at least the person using the excuse she was dead has to stop. It's offensive and untrue. Also I would like to add that the person writing emails to people under the name "David Chapman,
Defamation Attorney" is very likely to be a fake. Google "Defamation Attorney Chapman" you'll find nothing, and there is no David Chapman known enough, operating a business as far as I looked.

Every Attorney is online now, so I won't be surprised if this "attorney" is just a fake, invented by someone who has all interest in maketing this whole think look more complicated. Obviously people are unhappy about Lingua World and its ex-CEO Ms. Leplenier, and if anyone runed a business before, it is not an easy thing! But the right thing to do is to admit the mistakes and the wrong doings especially when they are that many. It says it all when clients who are actually people in the first place are that unhappy. It's important to make it right by at least not threatening people for speaking out. Freedom of Speech people, we're not in China here, thank goodness!

She seem to offer her language services in France now. Offering French and Spanish classes to kids and adults. Also mentioning she was the "general director" of a language school in the US from 2002-2011. So obviously she is alive, she just moved to France. It's surely a symbolic "death", I sincerely wish her all the best but pretending to be dead, it's honestly sick.

I appreciate your comments.  Thank you.  If you facebook me we can chat about it in more detail. 

Today I spoke to someone at the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), they said they, themselves, cannot prosecute someone for impersonating an official from their office but urged me to speak to the Department that can.  They seemed very interested in the matter.  And said they doubt very much one of theirs would stoop so low.  I am pursuing this course of action.

To give you another idea how deceitful "Chapman Esq's" comments were; he suggested people/companies were suing me for "Extortion".  But that is simply impossible, as this is not a civil action.  Extortion is a criminal charge!  So it's not something someone can sue for.  From Wikkipedia:

Extortion (also called shakedown, outwresting, and exaction) is a criminal offence which occurs when a person unlawfully obtains either money, property or services from a person(s), entity, or institution, through coercion. Refraining from doing harm is sometimes euphemistically called protection. Extortion is commonly practiced by organized crime groups.

So, everything about Chapman's "report" was pure fiction.

Thank you Sebastian for taking the time to explain. 

There numerous are other complaints on the web about Ms. Samperi - Le Plenier - Lulu -- some on this very site.  There is no way that a single person could concoct all of this.  I have been taking classes for years at another school and I cannot find a single complaint about them on the web -- it is just not normal for a business to have this much drama.  And the drama is always surrounding one person -- not the teachers or students but the owner.

I feel sorry for you; clearly either she or someone connected to her went after you.  If there is anything I can do to help clear any other posts on others sites please let me know.

In one of the other posts on the web, someone claiming to work for Ms. Samper - Le Plenier - Lulu accidentally used Amity's web address instead of Languaworld's -- they are similar and it is an easy mistake.  I picked it up from there as I know she had Languaworld up for sale and assumed she was moving on.  I have done everything I can to clear the confusion up.

It is just twisted to post that she is deceased on this or any website.  I have checked around and cannot confirm it.  That doesn't mean it isn't true; but it remains very dubious.  Ms. Samperi - Le Plenier - Lulu has a very heavy presence on the web and her family members as well.  The truth will become apparent in time.

Hello all,

I've just noticed this thread.   First of all, I had absolutely nothing to do with it whatsoever.  Thank you Sebastian (above), for pointing out that you have nothing to do with me - it appears we either share the same name, or you have selected a first name to disguise your real name (good choice by the way!)- it is your right to do so!  I'm sure your claim has merit - but I know nothing of it's truth.  As you have mentioned: you and I are unconnected.

Moving on, please allow me to paint a broad skeleton outline of all of this.

I went to Langua World about 2 years ago or so.  I had an issue with the owner of the school, as she had ripped me off.  She did this by sending a teacher home early, and pretending to me that I was late.   I won't go into any more of the story, because I've already explained it once.  And the purpose of this note is to bring peace and harmony to all!

It seems that after my initial complaint; several people subsequently, and independently, complained about her and the school.  I've actually received emails from some of these people expressing their disquiet with what happened and asking me about my own experiences.  I feel bad for all of the other victims.

This all said, this happened a while ago and I am over it.   I didn't expect other people to complain, but I am not shocked to read that they have.   But, I had nothing whatsoever to do with these subsequent complaints!

Now let me turn to the outrageous comments written by someone purporting to be "Chapman, Esq" above.  First of all, thank you for letting me know about the Department of Consumer affairs in New York.  I wrote to them as soon as I saw your defamatory posts and provided them with the URL to this thread.  Clearly, you do not work there!  I sincerely hope and, would encourage them, to obtain a mandatory injunction so they can order the Bad Business Bureau (the company that owns rippedoffreport.com) to discover who you actually are, and then prosecute you for misrepresentation, and impersonating an official from a regulatory body.

I am quite sure, and I suspect intelligent readers of this thread will form the view, that if you really worked for such a regulatory body, you would not be posting insults on a website.  You also wouldn't be threatening me with lawsuits.  You also would post your real name, phone number and other contact details at your place of work and invite people to contact you.  I, for one, would happily do so, and, if I could prove it, would immediately issue proceedings against you personally for deformation of character and libel.  This is why, I strongly suspect, you are hiding your real name of course.

I have never claimed to have sued a company in the United States; indeed, I never have.  So this statement is completely fabricated.  If you are correct, what are the case numbers?  Who are the defendants?  Where are the URLs, or case law references citing the same?  And why would anyone spend tens of thousands of dollars suing companies for small, token sums of money?  Answer: they wouldn't!  Moreover, no one has ever sued me.  So again, where are your case numbers, URLs citing case law etc. etc. contradicting my statement?  They don't exist!  And therefore, you are lying again!

Incidentally, people haven't used 'Esq' for decades.   Try using an actual name, preferably that of your own!

I am also confident, that if you really worked for such an institution, you would be able to order your sentences with proper grammar.  For instance, you said:

It's fake ID(s); not "ID", write(s); not "write"and, ask(s); not "ask".  And that was just one, run-on, coma and full-stop deficient, badly written sentence!  I'm pained to grammatically correct the rest of it.

And no one, other than rippedoffreport.com, can remove posts on their site; so there would be no point in me, or anyone else, asking for compensation to do so.  Again, this allegation is false.  So, Sir/Madam, or mud-slinging, illiterate moron, you have no cause of complaint against me.

Finally, if you really did work for this institution, you would be dealing with complaints in a formal, professional manner.  Not by writing incoherent sentences, with vague references, non-specific complaints and weak arguments.

I'd like to emphasis, that I have only complained once about the company; not several times.  Indeed, I wouldn't be revisiting this unpleasant chapter in my life had it not been for the rude, untrue and clearly, defamatory comments made above, by Chapman, sorry, let me go back to the 1940s, Chapman, Esq. 

On top if this, I wasn't even the Sebastian above, who started this post in the first place!

Continuing with my skeleton outline...

...so after all the complaints that were lodged against Langua World - and I hasten to add, not the talented teachers that have worked there over the years - Langua World seems to have pursued various defensive measures against the complainers. 

(Please keep in mind, I do not know this for sure, but this is what seems to have occurred based on various posts I have read - again, not written or endorsed by me!) (Note to Chapman, Esq: that means I didn't write or support them!).

Such rumored (note to Chapman, Esq again: this means I don't know this for certainty) defensive measures, include, but are not limited to:

1.  Changing the name of the school - to what I don't know - I was told by the owner/manager herself that my complaint meant nothing as she was about to close the school anyway. 
2.  Changing the name of the manager/owner herself.
3.  Attempting to discredit the complainers by claiming that their complaints are all written by one person or a few people.  This is simply nonsense - they are clearly written by different people, at different times, with different experiences.
4.  Now, apparently asserting that the owner has died!  I don't believe this for a second.  There's an old Billy Joel song reference: "Only the good die young"; I doubt she has fallen victim to mortality just yet.  Why else would they be slinging mud around like this?

Lastly, apparently, there is a school called Amity that has been brought into this (I have no idea if this school is independent of Langua World or any other school or entity).  I have no knowledge of this entity whatsoever and therefore, have no complaint against it.  But they have mentioned my name and have asked me to remove posts.  But they are mistaken to think I have complained more than once!  Or written several posts.  Once again, I have not! 

In any event; as I have already said, no one other than the website owner can remove posts.  It's well documented.

Okay, now here's the twist to the tail:

I have no interest in seeing any language school or person associated with one, being adversely affected by any complaint.  In the interests of peace and harmony, I am happy to resolve this issue, to the extent I am able to, by writing a statement that the issues between myself and Langua World have been amicably resolved.  But I will only do so, if I'm apologized to, with the same enthusiasm as I have been defamed.  I also expect a retraction of the defamatory statements - all of them!  I would also like to urge you (Chapman, Esq. and your cohorts) to stop insulting other people who are merely victims.  I appreciate you are trying to protect the name of your school, and I see no problem with that, but I hope you simply apologies to these victims so everyone can feel better - including you!

So, if you are agreeable to that, we can move on. 

You can now choose to insult me (and others) again or extend your hand to us peacefully.  I truly hope we can resolve this.  As I have said, I am happy to do my part (you can write to me and ask me what you would like me to say and I will consider it once apologies and retractions have been made.)

To be clear, Amity Language Institute is a reputatble company.  However, their domain name is very similar to Ms. Samperi's domain name.

Sadly, this is just aiding Ms. Samperi and hurting Amity.

The negative comments happen to be about LearnFrenchNewYork.com and not LearnFrenchNY.com

It is a shame there has been a misunderstanding.  However, Amity claims Ms. Samperi does not and has not worked for them.  I believe them.  However, while they have a right to refute statements about their company, the comments regarding Ms. Samperi remain true, despite the error.

I know Sebastian Elliot very well and his multiple scams, several companies are suing him for extortion, he is a pro at that. I have been working for the Department of Consumer Affairs in NY for 15 years, he loves filling fake complaints about companies, google Sebastian Elliot and you will find multiple posts against him and his company, he creates several accounts and fake ID and write defamatory comments about companies and then ask them for money so he can remove the posts, he claims he has judgments against several companies which is completely untrue, we have been working on these cases for several years and do not take them in consideration anymore, we are now helping these companies to win their law suits against Sebastian Elliot, he is a very manipulative individual who is desperate for money. Please do not make business with him in any case, you will be sorry for doing so.

I mistakenly identified Ms. Samperi with AmityLanguage Institute.  I was completely wrong on that point.  Amity Language Institute has nothing to do with Ms. Samperi.  They have similar domain names and I go them confused.  I am deeply sorry for the mistake.

As to everything else, I have all of it documented, including the court papers and the letters from the sherif.

If you have had a pleasant experience with Ms. Samperi, great for you.  Meanwhile she took my money and refuses to obey the court order to repay it.  She has disregarded the letters from the NYC sherif.  There are so many negative comments about Langaworld and Ms Samperi / Le Plenier they can't all be untrue.

Thank you so much for your wonderful classes Sandrine Le Plenier Samperi!!

I have spent a lot of time over the last few years trying to learn French. In reading books, learning rules of grammar, I have learned a lot about French, but not really to speak the language. It has been quite frustrating to be able to read fairly well, but not to express myself, fully understand others or participate in conversations. All that is in the process of change following my 10 day stay in Spa.

Sandrine Le Plenier Samperi and her terrific professors, have a different and better method. The concentration is on the sounds of the language, comprehension of spoken French and correct pronunciation. I can see now that with work on the right things, as directed by Learn French NY, it is possible for me to learn to speak the language. I arrived in Spa with the hope that I would make progress and I certainly did that; but, I also made some wonderful Learn French NY friends; Claudine, Jean-Luc, Genevieve, Valerie, Sylvia & Gerdemie, but also other students from Spain, Switzerland and Holland. I left with personalized tapes with about two hours of my professors speaking about subjects that I chose, concentrating on vocabulary important to me. I will continue to practice with these tapes, expand my oral comprehension and speak with more confidence.

I have been to other schools. If I had found Learn French NY sooner in my work to learn the language, I have no doubt that I would be much further along today. I plan to work with my tapes, the other recordings available at Learn French NY and, with time and effort, expand my ability. It is clear to me that with Learn French NYs method, and a lot of work no way to avoid that, but it is very enjoyable and rewarding I can become a French speaker. I will certainly return. Learn French NY has a very well deserved reputation for excellence among its students and other schools. Were it possible to easily learn a language, Learn French NY would have discovered the secret. It is not easy, it requires effort and repetition, but this is quite clearly the way for an adult to learn to speak a language.

The accommodations and meals are exceptional. Claudine is in charge of the meals, Jean-Luc the wine and everyone the conversation. Meal times are delightful; breakfast with Claudine, lunch with the professors and dinner entertainment with the Robin Williams of Spa, Jean-Luc. It will be very hard for me not to become a regular guest at Learn French NY. In short, the language experience is exceptional, the people and place delightful.

Hi Sebastian,

I really feel for you, because I used to work for Mrs. Le Plenier (Samperi).
She "hired" me with a weird contract, she made it clear to me, her lawyer had it checked, basically protecting her at the maximum, and making it very very limited for teachers.

First of all, I never really taught in the U.S before, so, not that I was naive, I just trusted her I guess. But I found it weird that in the contract, something was said like, I would be monitored while teaching, 
I can't get in contact with my students, take their phone numbers, emails etc... basically to make sure I don't steel the Students who pay a certain amount of money. So that She gets her percentage. Basically so that they don't come to me, and give me full price of the classes.
I taught, well, it's odd, but I guess it's how it is.
And it was said that for a year, I can't teach in other places, or well, I don't remember well, but it was suspicious to begin with.

Also, I remember I was forced to work with certain books, Sebatian you mention that you had to pay like $125 for them. Well these books were really not that great, and really limited my teaching. I totally felt like it was totally unfair to have everyone buy these sucky books, and charge everyone full price. I don't know if she had a contract with them or else. 

I truly tried my best to have a good professional relationship, and I am always trying to act professionally and with kindness. But on the last day, when I came to get my pay, she basically didn't pay me my hours fully, and through something like, anyway I was not that good of a teacher. (Apparently she watched my classes). 
Well I taught in bilingual schools, where I had dynamic classes, I always tried to make it interactive, and friendly, and fun to learn. I may not be a top nocht teacher since I was still lacking experience, but hitting that, was just mean and unprofessional.

One time I tried to arrange something for a student who could not attend a class. She usually is on time, and a hard worker, she was my best student, I told her, that I will try to talk to Mrs. Samperi but she didn't want to hear anything, and basically said it's her loss.
I came that day on class, knowing my best student could exceptionally not make it, and felt so bad. Knowing I could totally reschedule.

Totally inflexible.

I am really sorry if anyone had a bad experience. I hope these gets solved somehow, in a positive way.

Sandrine Samperi or Sandrine LePlenier has previously used Languaworld and LearnFrenchNY  ( www.LearnFrenchNY.com ) as names for her french classes.

A quick google will find that she is once again trying to clean up her act and is now affiliated with AmityLanguage.com or AmityLanguage.net

Her newest personal site http://www.sandrineleplenier.com/  claims she "is a regular person" who now lives in Europe.  However, she is still booking classes in New york and placing ads on craigslists.

Her LinkedIN account is suddenly shy except to say she is self employed.

Hi, my name is Mari. I am originally from Spain. Thank you for allowing me to put my 3 cents regarding this!

I have taken classes myself at Langua World. I am very satisfied with the services I have received and strongly believe that Langua World is a VICTIM in this case.

I have read articles about ABC Lang (another language school) whose business had strongly decreased since Langua World's opening in 1994 so I strongly believe that competitors are behind these "nasty" comments.

Also Langua World has done charity work and taught sick children in NYC completely FREE of charge, I coordinate myself these classes. This company is certainly NOT taking advantage of students as claimed in this report.

If you take time to look for articles regarding ABC Lang, you will see and understand that these claims against Langua World are not legitimate AND ARE ALL MADE UP by competitors.

I am only getting involved with this because I really loved my classes and will come back for more classes for sure.

When I registered, I met the school Director who was very nice to me and even offered me to pay for tuition in installment since I was unemployed at the time. I took on this offer and started my classes.

The first class I took at Langua World was actually a FREE trial class.

My teacher was very professional and prepared for class.

It is a shame, competitors should not be allowed to do such things and should certainly never lower themselves to try to ruin other companies' businesses.

I had to file a 2nd lawsuit against Sandrine Samperi aka Sandrine Le Plenier for Sherif fees and interst for her non-payment which has lasted over 1 year now.

Sandrine has changed her name on the all the websites.  She is now using "Sandrine Le Plenier".  Please search under Sandrine Samperi on this site or on Google/Yahoo to find all the complaints for this individual.

She is now being sought by the Manhattan Sheriff's office for payment.
