What a scam Jeep service location! I brought my Jeep Grand Cherokee in for a diagnostic. The agreed upon price was $195 plus tax. I waiting a month for an appointment because they we're fully booked. While dropping my car off, I informed the service associate (Oscar) that I had already identified the issue with my Jeep, but I wanted confirmation. I stated there might be an issue with my valve lifters, tie rods & possibly my gas intake purge valve. Fast forward...
They kept the car for about a week and informed me that they couldn't find the problem. So, when I went to pick the car up they gave me an estimate of what it would take to fix the car. $16,000. Yes... $16,000. I was taken aback. I asked them if they determined that the problem was the valve lifters and also the tie rods like I stated. They said they didn't know, but had to tear the engine down to find out. I told them absolutely not. The car was running fine, but it just had a slight squeeky noise coming from somewhere. So, I returned to Jeep to pick up my vehicle and they told me the diagnostic was going to over $400. I lost it after that.... I asked Oscar why? He said they had to do 2 diagnostics for the tie rods and for the engine. First of all, he never informed me of that. Second of all, they never were able to diagnose the issue with the engine. How the heck can you charge for something you didn't do? He brought his manager over and he lied and told him he informed me that there would be 2 tests. What a lie! What a scam!
Conclusion... I had to flip out (I was a peaceful man up until this point) and basically cause a scene (which I'm not proud of) to get the diagnostic price back down to the originally agreed upon $195 plus tax. So, if you are taking your vehicle to Jeep Larchmont for service, and your factory warranty has expired, Just DON'T!
Attached to this document you will find the handwritten estimate that they gave me. And oh, the next day, I took my Jeep Grand Cherokee 2014 Limited to Lopez Motors & Repair on Webster ave. in New Rochelle, and they were able to determine that the problem was indeed the valve lifters and the cost with parts and labor were around 2K. Now the car rides likes a dream and no more noises. He even had me drop by while they were working on the vehicle and actually showed me the lifter that was making the noise... lol
