2022 January I won a " free reward" off a legtimate webstite pop-up survey ( i feel it was ancesty or amazon, but not clear 100%). To my angry surprise I got caught in a virus like loop that even a PC reset didn't remove!
BTW: I didn't screenshot the first portal but as soon as it captured my browser I did & after reboot I started screenshots at second stage which it continued from was instantredflagdeals.com
To escape I first chose a supposed stand alone fit watch. bla-blah price but "free" with shipping. Promo codes, etc..final price was like 8 bucks then after checkout code, ttl was 6 bucks
The whole site froze, then booted me back to selection page that now had "timers". Most items were pricey to pay for garbage.
10 minutes later: The watch was no longer available, Im not even sure if I "bought it" and I looked for an equally cheap garbage alternative. I noticed it did register that my checkout bonus was used (it took like 2 bucks of additional)
This time was earbuds that you can get comparatively for 3.99 at Staples. Final price again was abt 6 bucks. Once I could escape this black hole of borderline fraud, I chalked it up to lesson learned under 20 bucks and proceed to back up folders incl used my dec computer back-up copy after wiping registry clean of all non oem items.
I should have reported it then but I was still pretty sick til mid Fwb (asode note: had pertussis & Covid at same time simce nov2021) and barely was online except to use DNA test results during a new service promo.
Fastforward to June 2022, I have now picked up 3 calls saying I owe some unk company for that fit track. That my bank refused payment. When? As soon as more details were given I was livid. Plus they want the full price for this "piasse'du'crappe" ?
I gave the poor call center wage slave an earful. No personal attack but plenty colorful language. Not gunna pay more nor allow it to tag my credit, I'll fight it on all big three as fraud. Also insult to injury, the item presented was not as advertised, never used, in a back drawee in package still. It is not stand alone but requires a pretty beefy smartphone to handle its app. (Bet the app is sketchy too).
In Jan I was deducted two dif amounts from two dif vendors (who are now non-existent) with the expected amounts of 6.94 and 6.96. The vendor outpay information was not same as page info.
My bank is super choosey about odd charges because of my alert settings. Also the 3 number pin is dif between my 2021 MC debit that expired feb and my new 2022 Visa. So, if it i how I presume; and they attempted a fraudulant second charge? they would be kicked back. Hey I'll send them that useless garbage back new-in-the-box. I'd rather pay 50% the puchase in standard postage+cheap tracking and get my 6 bucks back!!
