This is not really a ripoff but trickery on the part of HRS. I paid off my account before any interest started. I wanted to call and close the account, I would call the 800 number press 0 to speak with a service rep and get a message "All customer service representatives are busy with other customers, you are being transferred back to our automated line". There I am at square one again, no option to hold, and in theory no way to cancel my account. Well I decided to try to look HRS up on the web, I pulled up this site and the 800 number listed for HRS for BestBuy on one of these reports accepted my call. I was only able to cancel my account by calling the Best Buy division of HRS.

Far too often consumers can not easily cancel their accounts. One trick I have found in the past is to hit the option for lost or stolen cards (HRS doesn't have that option). You say your card is lost and they will cancel it immediately. They they ask about sending a new card to you, and you say no thanks I was going to cancel it anyway.
