I had an account with Helzberg for one year before I got a divroce from my ex-husband. I was never late on any of my payments with Helzberg Diamonds and I believed they were a good company. Going through the divorce, it was stated in my divorce decree that my ex-husband was legally responisble for payment on this account and this was June of 2000.

I contacted Hurley State bank who at this time was the bank for Helzberg Diamonds, I let them know what had happened and asked them what I could do to get the account out of my name to protect my credit in case he did not pay. At first they were very nice and helpful, they gave me some ideas on how we could have the amount transfered from my name to my ex-husbands.

They denied the transfer, and then ignored any attempt I made to request information on having it removed from my name. I sent them copies of my divorcee decree, I sent them certified letters with my current address asking them to notify me of the account. (They were sending all bills, or letters to my ex-husbands address so I never knew what was going on.)

They ignored my letters, and when I called, they would ignore what I was asking for and transfer me to some lady would get on the phone and yell at me, asking when this account was going to be paid. When I asked to speak to managers or if I asked to have information about people higher up so I could get some results. They wouldn't tell me the information I requested. I couldn't get anyone to help me, so in the process my credit got ruined because my ex did not pay on the account.

While I was in the process of getting my ex on contempt charges for not paying on the account. I called and notified Hurley State bank that I was trying to help them get their money, but it wasn't Hurley State Bank anymore, now it was Citibank. This time I was treated so rudely that I just hung up. I called back two days later to get account history information for my court records. This time I talked to Jason Ruud, I told him what the deal was, what I was doing, what I needed from them and why. He transfered me to a lady who yelled at me again wondering when I was going to pay on this account. I had to explain the whole thing again, and then she acted like I didn't even say a word.

I found out that six days after that phone call they charged off the account. Why didn't they tell me that when I was on the phone, why did they not send me any responses to all the certified letters I sent them and their affiliates? This company and it's affiliates ignored me and my requests for help and information. They constantly gave me the run around, I need to talk to so and so, or send a letter to so and so.

The last straw with this company was after I found out they charged off the account. I called and asked them how I can dispute the charge off. I believe this company ignored me and in that respect it is their fault this charge off is on my account, period! The lady I talked to told me that I would have to talk to Loren, at City Corp. Credit Services. When I asked for the number, she would only give me the address. So I sent a certified letter to Loren at City Corp. It has been over a month now and I have not heard anything.

While online yesterday I decided to file a complaint and while on the BBB (better) and doing some research there. According to the BBB, City Corp. is no longer in business. So here I am back at square one, trying to find out how the heck I can get this off my credit while trying to work with a company that gives you false information, and won't answer my letters, or questions regarding people higher up that I can talk to. I want this matter resolved, and I am just sick that it has been like this for 2 years.

This company and it's affiliates are horrible, they do not care about you as a consumer, they only care about themselves. They will ignore you, not inform you of anything that is going on even though they have your address, they dictate to you what YOUR going to do, instead of listening to you the consumer and helping you. This whole thing disgusts me and I will never do business with them again, and neither will anyone I ever come in contact with.

Just a little follow-up to the last rebuttal----I work for a mortgage company and I see things like this everyday.

Look in your phone book and get the numbers for the three credit bureaus. Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. It helps if you already have a current credit bureau so that you can know if this company reported to all three (Some companies only report to one or two.)

Call them and ask for somebody to help you dispute a charge-off on your bureau. Most likely they will want you to write them with your dispute so make sure you get a address and a contact person.

Personally I would send the letter certified just to make sure. These companies have been really good to me with clearing up these matters but it could take a little time because they will do some research with the company that reported you.

Also, in your letter, request that they send you verification that they are clearing your credit bureau.

When they send their response back and they didn't include the verification, make sure you contact them and get it because it will help you if you are ever to request credit again and the charge-off happens to show on your bureau. Hope this helps! Good Luck

...that you get copies of your credit reports, and then contest what they put in there. Send a copy of the court order showing the debt is your ex-husband's legally, and not yours. Explain that the debt is not yours and that this black mark should not be on your record, but on your ex-husband's. You have the right to do these things, and hopefully can get this resolved.

As for this bank, well they sure do sound completely incompetent. I don't blame you for being upset. Good luck with taking care of it.
