My airbags deployed on me 8/1/13 while sitting at a red light by my house. I emailed GM immediately got an response stating someone would call me next day. Next day I spoke w/a CS named Alex who went over my account of what happened, Products and Claims was busy so they'd get back w/me that Monday. After talking w/a Claims and Products rep, she set up for my truck to be inspected by one of their 3rd party inspectors which was done 8/16/13. August 28th I was told that the report cameback to show there was an electrical malfunction in the SMD box and it was nothing that I did (ALL GM'S FAULT).

That's when I was asked to send a copy of the bill of sale, title, and registration; next day i'm being told they're willing to purchase my vehicle for $2600 b/c the cost of repair was more than the truck was worth due to the year, make model and miles... oh then she proceeds to tell me that even when I bought it I paid TOO MUCH for it, REALLY. I have yet to give them my answer b/c I am trying to see what my legal rights are. Mind you I currently OWN this vehicle, nothing has ever been majorly wrong meaning accidents AND the maintenance has been superb not to mention this truck took a 3,000 mile relocation trip w/o A SINGLE PROGLEM!

I'm to take this $2600 and use it as a down payment and acquire a car note which is financially impossible at this time, but they don't care. I've called a few weeks ago to find out exaclty how much the repairs would cost, just to be told there wasn't a specific number that was given but if the repairs are 50% higher than KBB they wouldn't do it. I've called around to every chevy dealer and body shop and each has quoted under $3k and that includes the complete work and inspection afterwards. They won't provide me w/a copy of the inspection report b/c they say it's property of GM but I can have what the CDR read. I've asked about doing an even trade take my vehicle and giving me exactly what I had she said no they're firm on their offer.

So I'm suppose to take my truck to the dealer and hand over my title and keys, for a piece of paper that isn't replacing my car anywhere close to what I had, but I can turn around and let a crooked car salesman/woman try and swindle me into something I DON'T want and CAN'T afford. Ok I'll just go back to my mansion and mull over my fleet of cars and toss that check in the stack w/the rest! IN MY DREAMS! All i want is to be placed in either what I'm giving to you or heck even a year higher I don't think I'm being unreasonable. I guess I'll strap my 2 teenagers to my back and walk them to every practice, game and other function they have!

Just do without a airbag until you can save enough to get yourself a new vehicle. You have to remember that a airbag is just another layer of consumer protection to work in tandum with your seatbelt. We had been driving around for a very very longtime WITHOUT airbags. SO take your time and drive safely until you can either afford the repairs or purchase a new vehicle. Unfortunatly given that they offered you so little, that tells me that your car is pretty old. You do realize that them giving you ANYTHING is a blessing right. The age of a vehicle and its use are really outside anything that they control. So if your vehicle is over 5 years old, then them giving you money is a good thing. They have no control or responsability past a 1 year manufacturer warrenty.
