As a former employee of a bank (not Fleet Bank), I thought this might come in handy, and it holds a heck of alot of clout. Just did it myself and it worked WONDERS!! Try contacting the Comptroller of the Currency. These are the folks that banks report to if they are a nationally chartered financial institution. Lodge a FORMAL complaint explaining what Fleet did to you. They'll want copies of all of your documents in order to investigate your claim. The address is: Comptroller of the Currency Customer Assistance Group 1301 McKinney Street Suite 3710 Houston, TX 77010 tel: 1-800-613-6743 internet: http://www.occ.treas.gov If all else fails, when your bank has their next scheduled Federal Audit, they know that this issue is going to come under the microscope....and they'll hate it. So theyll do everything in their power to fix it NOW - before the audit. As a former bank employee, these issues gave all of us ulcers. It's a great pressure point when the bank is playing monkey-shines with you.
