Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My husband and I went to CCCS for assistance in getting out of debt. We had formerly been using another debt management firm but felt we weren't making good progress on getting out of debt. We were not actually delinquent on any of our credit cards but wanted to lower our interest rates, and they claimed that they could help us. CCCS gave us a listing of all of our creditors and the interest rates that they supposedly could get for us. On the largest outstanding balance, they told us that they could lower our interest rate to 8-10%. (It was already at 8% from our former debt management co.)

Well, for whatever reason, they did not follow through and contact our creditors, so after a year with their program, we now have late reports with almost every one of the accounts they were supposedly "managing" for us. CCCS warns you to NEVER contact your creditors directly, and we didn't, assuming that they were doing as they had promised. The interest rate on that largest debt is now at 25% and our credit history is ruined- thanks so much, CCCS!!!! After a year of making payments on that largest balance of more than $150 per month, we actually owe almost the same amount we did at the beginning of the year! When we called to complain, they basically said, sorry, but we can't do anything about it. They have taken no responsibility for dealing with our creditors and refuse to acknowledge that they screwed up our credit report, which was clean before we contracted with them!

The last person who posted about how great CCS and what it has done for them. They are incorrect when they said if an account is closed it will do nothing for your credit report. If your account is closed, and you do not make payments late fee's will get added to the account, and all credit card companies are obligated to report an account as past due to the credit bureaus if one does not have timely payments will show 30 days past due, etc on a credit bureau report.

Now I would reccomend filling a complaint possibly regarding the payments you were receiving, however, you were obligated to contact your creditor, and ask them if they received a proposal or correspdence regarding your account. Honestly, a lot of people do not keep in touch with creditors thinking CCS is doing everything, and you need to communicate as well.

I do not work for this company at all.

MMI Is A Great Help For Me

#3Consumer Suggestion

Search google Suze Orman CCCS video on  this company. CCCS is same as MMI. When the credit card company (B of A) reneged on the promise of a fixed rate and jacked up my interest, I had no choice but to look for alternatives. I was so mad at how B of A could not get their story right and I have never been late on payments, not once, not EVER !  I finally found out about MMI and did alot of research before deciding on them. I was worried because my DTI (debt-to-income) was not very good. I was unable to go credit union because of DTI, so still needed help and quick.

I AM DELIGHTED BECAUSE NOT ONLY IS MY CREDIT REPORT UNHURT, THEY PUT ME ON A FIXED 5%  and I will have it paid in just 4 years (vs 12 yrs it would of been)

There probably would not be any complaints with MMI if you do these guidelines and write them down:

#1 rule they do not emphasize enough: You need to provide a 3 week window between the time of your due date for MMI and the due date for the debtors. Phone each and arrange this. By doing this, you will not be late, especially if you have it automatically debited. (check online and make sure of postings)

#2 They tell you not to open any other lines of credit.  Not a car, not anything.

#3 Ask MMI when you can close account and that you do it, not them. Then make sure you tell the credit card company to file that YOU personally have  closed your account with them, not anyone else. There is no problem on credit report if a customer has closed their  own account.

There is some people online making false reports such as saying they don't want you to contact your debtors. This is not true. I am still getting my statements from my debtor AND MMI. MMI has been very helpful even with their call center being flooded. Why? Because of the credit card companies being, in my opinion, cruel.
