DON'T DO IT!

Hi, I don't want this to sound like a rant (but it is) most of us some time or another uses boards to find parts to fix machines. I posted that I was looking for a motherboard for a HP XT983 pavilion, and I received a comment back naming a place that showed they had the particular motherboard that I was looking for. The motherboard made by Tri-Gem model SantaFe-KM and was also used in the E-machine T1400. I know this motherboard would drop in to the HP case but would not take the recovery disc due to not having the correct BIOS loaded. (I'm not sure if I could change the BIOS or not) But as for ease of changing out the motherboard it wouldn't be bad and then I could load a retail version of windows and be on my way.

I contacted the site comp-recycle.com and was told they did have the motherboard but no longer took paypal and I would need to send a money order or cashiers check. I didn't get by the bank and sent them payment through Yahoo bill pay, I thought the way that worked was Yahoo took the money out of my bank and sent it to them. I was mistaken about this and found out later that they issue a check in your name but your cash stays in your account until the person on the other end cashes it. I notified them of how payment was being sent and told them they should receive the check by 11/18/04. I received an e-mail back stating that there would be no problem with payment. The first part of the next week I got an e-mail stating that the payment would not be accepted and my check returned. OK, I was thinking while this was going on this motherboard was well known for failing. I'm sure more than haft of the post regarding the HP XT983 were about motherboards going out, maybe I was lucky that I didn't get a used one anyhow. So I set off looking for a suitable replacement. I already had a retail version copy of windows so lets find something that would fit and last.

After a week went by and I hadn't gotten my check back I e-mailed comp-recycle.com and asked if there was a problem. I was told the next day that the motherboard had just came in and would go out tomorrow and I'd get shipping information after it went out. Not really what I wanted but I did place an order so OK I wait, no shipping info. After another round of e-mails (I always send the first) I'm told my shipping information was lost and the order would go out right away. OK I wait guess what no motherboard. After a month of this I write and ask for a refund. The e-mails have all been replies to one another and all of the addresses were in each one. I still don't hear anything back (or get my check that cleared my bank on 11/26/04) After the second request for a refund I'm told the motherboard will go out the next day. (Again) I do write back and tell him (Bob James) that that isn't what I wanted and please just refund my money. (That a month before he told me that's what he was going to do because he didn't like the type of payment)

On 12/24/04 I receive a package from 2817 Meadowside Drive, McKinney, Texas. I don't think my check would be mailed in a box, so I open it and for some reason I received an Uwave2 A-slot motherboard. There was nothing else in the package, receipt, or packing slip or CMOS battery. (That's special) I have no idea what the specifications for this motherboard are (I didn't look a lot but I think it came out of a COMPAQ PRESARIO) so there is no way I'd try to install it! On Monday after Xmas I send it back and again ask for my refund. It's now 1/05/05 and I still haven't heard anything back.

I am quite sure that someone has gotten very good service from this web site, and I'm not suggesting this is the way all business is handled. Although I have not gotten any type of response to my last e-mails. I am sending this to him as well as posting it here in hopes of if not getting my refund knowing why he feels I shouldn't.

Than-you for reading a very long post.

I did get an e-mail back from Mr. James after posting this on an other site. It was very short and after finding this site a little funny he wrote : Well, if you going to do that then why should we pay you to ruin our

reputation?

Thanks,

Bob

Seems to me he didn't need any help from me.

Please reference ripoff report #116767 Bob James "AKA" Darrell Elliott - Comp-recycle The name has changed but its the same bad business. The name of the company is now called "The Computer Store" located at 1705 W. University Dr. #109 Mckinney, TX (972)542-9030 ask for Darrell. This is what happens when you screw people Darrell or Bob whatever your name is. This would have been avoided if you didn't make the mistake of screwing over the wrong techy nerd. Hope this information provided above helps you recoup any past loses from this company.
