Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

After finding both of my vehicles gone from my residence, the police referred me to the clunker junker. My ex had BOTH of my vehicles towed/sold to them w/out my consent. I contacted clunker junker immediately, as the vehicles and personal property w/in them was important to me. Jessica did a little researching while I was on the phone w/her. At first only finding one of the vehicles(account w/them under his name), but then the other(account w/them under my name) as well. She did give me the tow company's phone #, and stated she would talk w/her supervisor and research the incident. I asked for him to follow up w/anything she found out, including supporting documentation, this being Friday 6/11/21.

I did call the next day, but they aren't open on weekends, so waited till Monday to hear back from them. On Monday afternoon, since I hadn't heard anything I contacted them again. After initial speaking w/a different person, and asking for a supervisor, was referred to Jessica. She stated she had left me a VOICE MAIL. I said I never received any VM, text, or email. When I asked date /time she wasn't sure, but would check her records. Upon checking her records, stating she left sick on Friday, she realized she never sent the EMAIL.

She had no further comment, other than to send the email. I don't know if I mentioned the towing company does not answer/take calls, and the "mailbox is full" is the only message you get, as a consumer calling. I then did a little online research, and found the "founder"s name and email(Eric Mitz; [email protected] ). So I emailed him, and requested any help he could provide. Seeming helpful at first he did provide some info which was at best redundant w/what I already knew/had.

Then I began to ask more questions, since there were statements on the webpage, suggesting how they made selling your car safe, legal, etc for both the buyer and seller. Here are some of the questions: 1. Since the web page says: "If we can buy your car without the title, you almost always need some other form of proof of ownership. This is usually a photo ID matching a valid and current registration for the car, or in some states like Washington an "affidavit in lieu of title"." What exactly did he show as proof? 2. "To help our sellers feel more at ease, The Clunker Junker offers a 100% payment guarantee. What that means is in the extremely rare case were a check from our carrier or local junk car buyer bounces or is otherwise invalid, The Clunker Junker will cover the payment out of our own pocket.

We have extreme confidence in our carriers and buyers, and having purchased over 40,000 cars we are proud to say we have never had an unresolved payment issue. Check our our Better Business Bureau rating and our positive online reviews!"  Did he get a check or cash? Was the check made payable to him? Has it cleared? At this point Eric didn't want to answer any of these, what I thought to be "simple questions". I did a little more research. Contacted the Phila PD (2nd division) about the tow company. Found out that is a residential area, w/no businesses. Then used the MC# and discovered the tow company has not been licensed or insured since 2014. Despite that fact the Clunker Junker has no problem sending them out to unsuspecting citizens who see/believe all their reassurances as stated on their webpage.

Here's the link that show's the "buyers" involuntary license revocation dated 2014:

https://li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov/LIVIEW/pkg_carrquery.prc_authorityhistory

Here's the link showing no insurance, also dated 2014:

The info you sent me states  "partner since 1/31/21" so what did they show you as proof of any of the above?  Did you check anything out about this company before sending them off to the general public w/your "full backing and support"?  Here's yet ANOTHER question you refuse to answer, one of many.

Rebuttal to your rebuttal, since you don't have the stones to call and speak directly to someone.

You supplied some answers to the first email, and initial questions I asked.  Basically by stating, "your not responsible", what happens w/buyers and sellers is between the.  But that's not how your website describes "your" part in the process....".w/professionalism and integrity", HA!  Then going on about "unsavory characters".  You can't have it both ways, saying how safe, legal your process is, and it's backed up 100%.  Then as soon as there's an issue, "that's not what we do, we just connect buyers and sellers".

Let's start w/your claim I haven't shown you any proof, YOU NEVER ASKED!  But I do have it and would gladly        show it!

#2 a direct quote from your page:  "In many cases (though not all) we can buy junk cars in Philadelphia, PA with no title.  In all cases you will need to be able to prove you own the vehicle.  That is usually done by showing a photo ID matching a valid registration for the vehicle."  Was this done?  NO, someone signed a piece of paper saying they owned the car.  Nothing was shown to PROOVE he owned it, period.

#3:  "Note we can never buy abandoned vehicles under any circumstances."  That is exactly what he claimed (I abandoned them) and that's exactly what you did, bought it.

AND last but not least, #4:  what about the towing company you sent?  They haven't been licensed or insured since 2014!!!  I found that out myself w/the MVC# you gave me, w/a simple search.  You're doing business w/these people, but you don't even know they aren't legal?  How do you explain that one?  You didn't and can't.  But please, answer that question.  We'd all love to hear it.  I asked you these basic simple question, w/quotes directly from your webpage, but you didn't answer them.

Your entire web page makes everything sound safe, legal, and easy.  But obviously it's not.  He showed nothing, and signed a piece of paper.  That Benz was worth a lot more than what he got paid, the tires alone were $1000.  But I guess Alex's or Superb towing, whatever name they are using knew that.  My car and all my personal posessions that were in it (oh yeah, your site also says all of that has to be removed, but wasn't) are gone, he has the $$.  And what can I do?  Nothing, since Mz. Betty has gone to a chop shop, or junk yard.  Still waiting to here from the reputable "buyer" you sent to the residence, well over 2 weeks now.

Yes I was upset, and prob was yelling.  Mainly because I'm getting different stories, and your employee was LYING to me.  Jessica was insisting she called and left me a message on that Friday, before she left sick.  But she didn't.  It wasn't until I asked what time/when that she back peddled.  Suddenly realizing she never sent the email.  Since we weren't talking about an email, but a voice mail, who knows.  Do you have tapes of the intial call?  I would love a copy of it, so I could listen to it again.  I will be the first person to admit if I misunderstood our conversation (me and Jessica) that first day, all you have to do is supply it.  I was told one account under him, and one under me, 2 cars.   Then the story changed.  Proove me wrong, please.

If I remember correctly I asked you NUMEROUS times to call me, so we could resolve the issue.  But you never did.   Typical, hiding behind the keyboard.

Our company has been caught in the middle of a personal, domestic dispute.

#4REBUTTAL Owner of company

Tue, June 22, 2021

I will begin our response with this preface: Susan is NOT our customer (Her ex-husband is), she has NOT shown us any proof she owns the vehicle(s) referenced in this complaint, and we have responded quickly, fully, and helpfully to every single email and phone call she has made to us; even as she screamed and hollered at every one of my support team members, who remained calm, collected, and as helpful as possible each and every time.

The idea that “no one will talk to me or answer any questions” is absolutely ludicrous. I have pages and pages of email conversations answering every single question that was asked. I have attached those entire conversations to this response. As you will see if you read them, even as she accused us of criminal activity and wished for me to “rot in jail” I have offered to assist her with the presence of her attorney, or the officer investigating her allegations present on the call.

We have also provided detailed information about the local buyer, a company from Pennsylvania called “Alex’s towing, DBA Superb towing”, who actually purchased this vehicle, as well as providing photo proof of the legal documentation her ex-husband signed. Unfortunately, this was not good enough for her, though she couldn’t articulate exactly what she wanted from us.

Susan blames us for two vehicles gone missing, but only one of them (Mercedes-Benz) was entered into our system, under her ex-husband’s name and contact information. We knew nothing about any 2nd vehicle located at her ex-husband’s residence until she mentioned it in her first phone call to us. We have repeatedly told her that we do not have this vehicle in our system.

Unfortunately, The Clunker Junker has found ourselves in the messy crossfire of a domestic dispute between Susan and her ex-husband. The Clunker Junker was not a party to the motor vehicle transaction described in the complaint.

I am attaching every piece of evidence and paperwork we have access to with regards to the motor vehicle in question. They all have personally identifiable information in them, so I am unsure if Rip Off Report will allow them to be shown.

I will once again, for the third time, answer all of the questions Susan claims I would not answer:

1. What exactly did he [the ex-husband] show as proof?

Answer: A Pennsylvania "Release of ownership or interest in a motor vehicle". Signed by Christian Hock, Susan's ex-husband, stating, and I quote: "The undersigned, being the legal owner of, or having a legal inerest in the vehicle described below, hereby authorizes ALEX TOWING Junk Vehicle Program to remove this vehicle to the motor vehicle graveyard."

The document is attached. If Christian forged this document or signed it illegally, that is a legal matter that should be handled with the local authorities.

2. Did he get a check or cash?

I do not know because The Clunker Junker is a lead generation company, we did not buy the vehicle and were not a party to the transaction. This matter is between buyer and seller.

3. Was the check made payable to him?

I do not know because The Clunker Junker is a lead generation company, we did not buy the vehicle and were not a party to the transaction. This matter is between buyer and seller.

4. Has it cleared?

I do not know because The Clunker Junker is a lead generation company, we did not buy the vehicle and were not a party to the transaction. This matter is between buyer and seller.
