Choice Home Warranty Company Deceptive Trade Practices!!! Agreed to Replace Non Working and Fully covered Microwave but offered less than cost to simply Repair. New Jersey
Stay Away from Choice Home Warranty.....Deceptive Trade Practices!!!!
I purchased a three year total coverage plan that exceeded $1,200. This was a total coverage plan covering almost all home appliances, plumbing etc. Recently, I had a claim for a over the range, built in GE Microwave that all the sudden stopped working. Choice Home Warranty Co. sent a service technician to diagnose te problem and they determined it needed new door switches and a new magatron with an estimate to repair of approx. $250. The service technician sent in his estimate and stated he believed they would approve the repair and he would see me the following week after the parts were sent to him. This service call cost me $65 in order to have the problem diagnosed and certified by the technician sent by Choice Home Warranty. I didn't hear anything for a couple of days so I sent Choice Warranty Co. an email asking what the status of repair was and they replied with Congratulations, we've decided to replace your Microwave instead of repairing it. The problem is they were only going to allow me $191 as a replacement cost instead of the $598 a new one costs to replace the old one, haul away the old one and install the new one. When I called the same repair technician, he stated that he had just repaired a less expensive Microwave (Samsung) for approx. $350 that Choice Warranty approved for repair so he could not explain why they were refusing to repair my GE for less repair costs ($250) as he had submitted. Beware that when Choice Warranty Co. says Congrats we are replacing your defective appliance that simply means they are going to offer less than it costs ro repair it and far less than what a replacement applicance will cost to replace with a similar unit. Replacement definition as defined in the Dictionary is to replace the same unit with a similar unit in its current place and not that its up to the customer to go and pick up the replacement and to pay a difference in costs and then to dispose of the defective one and then pay to reinstall the new one. Stay Away from this Warranty Company is my personal advise!!!! Save yourself the time and trouble because their Warranties are like not having one at all. D.H. (Schertz, TX)

Their contract does not promise to replace your microwave (or any other appliance) with an equivalent model. They will only pay a wholesale price of the absolute cheapest builder-grade unit. They also aren't obligated to pay for taxes, shipping, removal, installation, or anything else. So $191 is about right, the cheapest microwave from Lowes is about $220. You might be able to get a bit more from them if you file a BBB complaint and keep refusing their offers, but they are basically following their contract. I have no idea why someone would buy one of their policies, they are a total rip-off, as are virtually all other home warranty contracts.
