Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

In November 2020, my employer reduced my hours and cut by pay by $2.00.  I immediately found my self in hardship.

After moving out of my home in December and moving in with my son, I called Capital One to work out a settlement offer.  On January 21, 2020 we agreed on my balance due was $5,549.36 & I would make monthly payments of $154.11 un-till agreement was pay in full. This settlement payment plan was to start on February, 2020. As of today, I have paid Capital One a total of $3,549.36 towards my debt.

My complaint with Capital One is…….

I broke my wrist at work and I call Capital One to let them known that I was going to make two payment in March, 2021 in the amount of $300.00 and I would not be able to make a April payment.  I was told by the representative in the collections department that it would be Ok and I was under the impression all was good.  On August 31, 2021 I call Capital One to confim by balance was $2,000.00.  I was shocked to learn that our agreement was no longer in place because I did not make a payment in April.

I also learn the payments I made from May though August, 2021 was not going toward our agreement and my payment arrangements were no longer in place.  I ask…. why did I not received a letter about this and I was told the collection manager Eran (LYQ466) that no such letter existed, and my new balance due was now $5,699.57 because I did not send in a payment in April, 2020. Eran explain to me that it did not matter those two payments were made in March, 2020.

I worked really hard to put this behind me and repair my credit, and now I am screwed and I am filing complaints with everyone that will listen.  We are going through a World-Wide Pandemic with Covid and this company does not care at all.

First of all, I never apply for this account with Capital One.  It was sold to them by Synchrony Bank in October, 2019. In November, 2019 my employer reduced my hours and cut by pay by $2.00.  I immediately found myself in hardship.

I have been paying regularly on this debt for almost two years and I have never missed a payment.  I broke my wrist at work and I call Capital One to let them know that I was going to make two payments in March, 2021 in the amount of $300.00 and I would not be able to make an April payment.  I was told by the representative in the collections department that it would be Ok and I was under the impression that all was good and this arrangement was approved.

So, I continue to make monthly payments.   On August 31, 2021 I call Capital One to confirm by balance was $2,000.00.  I was shocked to learn that our agreement was no longer in place because I did not make a payment in April. I also learn the payments I made from May through August, 2021 in the amount of $1,100.00 was not going toward our agreement and my payment arrangements were no longer in place.  I don't understand why the representative did not explain this to me, if I would have known I would have waited and paid April when it was due.

After cooling off, I call Capital One again and asked to speak to a collection manager.  I spoke to Eran (LYQ466) about what happen and she was not at all interested in helping me solve this complaint, she did inform me that my now balance due is $5,699.57 because I did not send in a payment in April.

To this day, I don't understand why I never received a letter from Capital One that this payment arrangement was being voided in April, 2021.  They mailed me a settlement plan confirmation, why not a cancellation notice?

I've worked really hard to put this behind me and repair my credit score, credit report and now I'm getting screwed by this company.  They would rather continue to be difficult to work with and destroy my credit score and credit history.

I will fight them on this and I am filing complaints with everyone that will listen. We are going through a World-Wide Pandemic with Covid-19 and this company does not care at all that times are difficult for Americans.

I never understand how some people try to make the most simple thing complicated and then blame everyone else for the issue they caused.

You only owed $154/month.  If you knew you were not going to make the April payment, why would you pay $300 in March? All you needed to do was pay the $154 in March, save up the other $150 and pay it in April. If you are saying you are not that disciplined to be able to put aside $150 for a month, then it is easy to see why you are in this situation. Oh and don't say that the extra $8 you would have had to come up between the $300 and $308 was problematic.

The least of concerns should be "repairing" your credit. When(if) you ever get this debt paid off to NEVER open up another line of credit for the rest of your life until you learn BASIC personal financial management skills.

But this is perhaps the best line of your post...

We are going through a World-Wide Pandemic with Covid and this company does not care at all.

- You breaking your wrist has nothing to do with the Pandemic.  You also didn't seem to feel that way when they allowed you to be on a payment plan. Only when YOU broke the agreement do they become some "evil" company.  Of course, your excuse is that they said "Okay".  What does "Okay" mean? Did they send it to you in writing of what it meant?  Here is probably even a better question. What if they said it wasn't "okay" would you still have found a way to make the payment?

By the way, it seems as if they may have been over-generous. As you apparently have been able to pay much more than the minimum of $154/month they were requiring. Too bad you didn't think ahead much earlier, as if you had again just put aside a fraction of your payments that would have covered you for the month you were "short".
