Budget Rent A Car Budget pushes totally unnecessary and obscenely priced insurance off on my wife Indianapolis, Indiana
I had reserved a Budget rental for my wife who was flying into Indianapolis. The reservation was for three days at a total of $75. My wife arrived and went to the rental desk to pick up the car. She presented her Discover Card which covers insurance on a rental car charged to Discover. My wife is adult ADHD and does not normally transact business. The clerk, Judy, began to go through a long litany of how she needed their insurance and my wife said, "I don't know anything about these things. My husband is not with me and he usually takes care of business." My wife would not know an LDW from a DUI. The clerk emphasized that if the car was damaged, my wife would have to pay for the damage. The clerk knew that Discover provided coverage so her statements to my wife were little more that convenient lies. My wife signed the consent to coverage and called me about 30 minutes later. I got home shortly after her call and called Judy at the airport to tell her that we did not want or need her insurance. A $75 rental had turned into a $252 charge to our credit card. Judy gave me the old evasive "I have been to role-play training for situations like this" run-a-round. I asked to speak to the manager and he/she refused to take my call. I calculated this insurance on an annual basis and it came out to be $32,000 yearly to cover a $16,000 car. I say, "shame on corporations that have to dance around a thin legal line and rip people off to fatten the bottom line." And I say. "shame on you, Budget!"
