The humidity itself may not affect your player, but the normal collection of dust on the laser lens will accumulate due to the humidity in the air and eventually cause skipping and then failure to even read the discs. I won't even describe cleaning it off, as the lens assembly is very fragile.
IF the ones you rent DO have chunks of foreign material, it would be wise to clean them before placing them in your player. If they're cracked and/or glued, it's inadvisable to play them at all. If you do clean them, use a damp cloth and carefully wipe them ACROSS the surface of the disc and not in a circular pattern.
Rental people, as a whole, do not properly handle the discs and pass the playing problem on to the next hapless renter. Are you able to patronize a nother rental business?

You said that the dvd player may not work due to humidity. I live one block from the beach that would explain the humidity. As far as the peanut butter they probably do have peanut butter. I've found dvds with glue on them chocolate, dirt, you named it.

How, EXACTLY, did their "damaged DVD's" manage to break your dvd/vcr combo player?
Did these "damaged dvd's have big chunks of peanut butter or other detritus on them>
I repaired hundreds of players and can't figure how this could otherwise happen.
Cd/dvd player lenses eventually accumulate dust from the air which may adhere due to humidity.
This can lead to skipping and eventually not playing...unless the discs are like those I've described above, it doesn't come from the "damaged dvds".
Player drawers will sometimes fail to open or close incorrectly due to stretched, dried out rubber belts in the mechanism.
Your other complaints, may well be valid, but you're just trying for a freebie on your player.

I'm sorry didn't want to get anybody confused. The blockbuster express headquarters is in Georgia. I spoke to a supervisor by the name of Jetta. She said someone from the company will contact me. Still waiting.

First of all I'm not sure if you are aware but Blockbuster and Blockbuster Express are not the same company NCR purchased the name Blockbuster for their kiosks.
Now, the address you have here is the Blockbuster headquarter, but Blockbuster Express's is located in Duluth GA. If you don't believe it... check this out http://insideblockbusterexpress.com/ncr-announces-move-to-duluth-ga/
