My wife got a flat tire in the shopping center where BJs is located. I tried to add air to the tire and found a leak in the sidewall. The tire needed to be replaced. The other 3 tires are still in decent shape and will need to be replaced within 12 months. Being the holiday season, I only wanted to buy 1 tire. I went into BJ's Tire Store and asked for 1 new tire to be installed.

The supervisor, Fran, claimed the store policy did not allow them to install just 1 tire on all-wheel or 4 wheel drive vehicles. I told them I would sign a waiver for any warranty or liability to BJs. They still refused so I went to speak to the store manager(Mark Mueller), who was already on the phone talking to the tire department when I arrived. The store manager sided with the tire department supervisor. After a several minutes conversation and gettting nowhere, I got the 800 number for the corporate office. I spoke to Derek, who was very professional and tried to broker a deal with the store manager to have me sign a waiver against BJ's liability. The store manager claimed that they were unable to do so because of policy.

I understand that on a vehicle you should run all the same tread patterns. My plan would have been if they sold me the one tire to come back in a couple of months to have the additional 3 tires replaced. I feel that I was lied to about the reasoning for not selling me the tire and that the personnel in the tire department, who at the time had no customers in the shop, were more interested in watching the Eagles-Giants football game that was currently on the customer waiting room tv than helping their only customer. They seemed to be looking for an excuse not to do any work so that they could finish watching the football game.

I called AAA, they installed the spare tire (Donut) I proceeded down the street who had no problem in selling and installing just 1 new tire. After having such courteous service, I feel that BJs were in a way holding me hostage to purchase 4 new tires in order to get my vehicle fixed at their store. They not only lost a sale of one tire but also the additoinal 3 that will need to be replace within the next 6 to 12 months. I don't plan to renew my membership once it expires. There is a less than 2 miles down the street.
