Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Opened a Bank of America account. Funded it via another Popular Bank. Received my debit card and tried to activate it. It wouldn't. Called the CSR said oh we have to send you to the account closure dept. I was like um ok. They transferred me. The CSR answered "Fraud "something or another. I was like what? Fraud dept? Why the fraud dept. He said yes your account was closed due to fraudulent activity. I said what fraudulent activity? He said I'm not allowed to tell you.at this point I'm like I think you have made a mistake. He said no We haven't. I gave him my information again. And told him to tell me the reason why my account t was fraudulent. He said he wouldn't tell me. And I had to go to a bank and show them my I.D. I saidcok that's fine. I looked up the location of a BAC. It was 83 miles away(which I didn't know) I remember there being tons of them around. I told them I couldn't drive 83 miles to a bank. And who in the hell would do that anyway. (Because I was pretty sure That it was local.) But anyway. They cancelled my account(with money in it) said they would investigate where the funds came from and send me a check. I was like. If this account is a fraud why would you send a check to someone they thought was committing fraud or wasn't real? Anyway. They offered no explanation, talk in to no one else. And hung up. I tweeted them a picture of me holding my state issued ID and debit card. They still wouldn't believe me. Then I tweeted the letter I received. They didn't like that too much.

There are reasons for opening remote bank accounts

This guy may have opened a BAC account to take advantage of their free museum admissions the first Saturday of every month, not that the included museums amount to much in our area.

My advice to you is get your credit report from Experian, Transunion or Equifax, or all of them.

Maybe a bank local to you can even look into any credit issues you may not know of. You might already be an ID theft victim and not know.

Have you asked the bank you used to fund that account from?

None of what you said applies to my situation. Nor was any of your "reasons" a reason that it may be rejected.

- How do you know? By your own post they did not tell you the reason. It very well could be an identity or credit issue you are unaware of.

How dumb do you think I am to not blur out my drivers licence number? You must be young.

- Really so they don't have your DL number but they have your full name and address and any other information on the licence including your birthdate.  Or did you blur that out as well.  By the way you just proved exactly how easy it is to manipulate the photo.  Which is why I am not saying that you would change the picture, but from the bank's perspective they have no way of knowing without seeing it and you in person.

That not withstanding. Without the DL Number there is no postivie proof of ID anyways. Try that with a cop to say..yea here is a picture with me and my Drivers License but I blured out the number..because that's all the proof you need. Let us know how that goes.

As for my age, age has nothing to do with treating one's personal information securly.  So if you want to ignore the advice and don't think there is any issue because you blured out  your DL number then go right ahead and post that same picture on every Social Media site you can find.

Without trying to figure out why you would open up an account to a bank that you didn't even research enough to know that the closest branch was 83 miles away, or trying to figure out what this other funding source was..there are a few comments.

Taking a quick look at the application page before you even start the application it states

Apply at a financial center if..

You have limited credit history, making identity verification difficult

You have had issues with your checking history

You are depositing more than $100,000 today

Even if you didn't realize it, my guess would be you fall into one of the first two situations. Where they actually gave you initial approval you but when they reviewed it they decided to close the account. Other possibilities do include the funding source may be one that is an indication in their experience is one of fraudlent activity.

But if you get nothing else out of this post...read the following.

For security you should NEVER and I mean NEVER NEVER NEVER send personal information through ANY Social Media to ANY company. Yes your Drivers License is included in this.  That just opens you up to the possiblity of being a victim of ID theft. It is no wonder they weren't happy, because they know this.  By the way with a photo editing program it takes even a person with minimal experience only a few minutes to swap out a picture on a picture of a DL to make it look like anyone.  So doing what you did even if it was a secure method is NO proof that you are that person.
