Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I was recently given a gift from Burlington Coat Factory that did not fit. Not to mention that the gift was in my size, but when I tried it on it was extremely small. I first went to the store, and was treated very rudely by the person at the register and the manager as well. I told them I wished to exchange the gift for one that fit. It no longer had all the tags, as some of their tags have prices on them, and were removed before the gift was given. Some tags were still intact, as to prove it had not been used. The gift was obviously from Burlington, since no one else carries this brand. When I was refused satisfaction at the store location, I sent the following e-mail to their corporate office:

I received a pair of gloves for a birthday that were the incorrect size. Since they were a gift to me, I received neither the receipt nor the price tag with the gloves. When I tried to exchange them for equal merchandise that I could use, I was told that I could not since I did not have the original receipt or the price tag. All other tags were intact, and they were obviously purchased at Burlington, as was also verified by the person who purchased them. I was not interested in returning the gloves, but rather exchanging them for the same item in the correct size, so that I could use the merchandise.

Having worked in retail for many years I do understand the reason of return policies for the purpose controlling store inventory, preventing outside merchandise from entering the store, and preventing loss. This policy I do not understand. Having been a customer at the Greenville, SC Burlington store for many years, this is the kind of policy that will cease my relationship with Burlington, as well as anyone that I know or come in contact with. I would like to know what could be done to resolve this issue.

Other than the automated response from Burlington Coat Factory that ensured me "We can try to locate merchandise in different sizes, colors, styles, and manufacturers, either from any one of our locations or possibly a special order from one of our vendors." I was sent the following very rude response:

"Without tags and no receipt there is nothing we can do. That is policy. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Customer Service"

After my run in with Burlington I have found through friends and family that Burlington Coat Factory's normal business practice is to be rude, and inflexible while bullying their customers. I will never ever shop their again, and I will tell everyone I know not to shop their either. Burlington Coat Factory's executive team needs to realize that for every one customer they lose it takes seven new customer's to replace them. Their business practices are absurd, and I wish them to follow the growing trend of many other retail business' in this competitive market. BANKRUPTCY!!! Business is something that must be earned, and they do not deserve anyone's business.
