I am writing to add to the claim of problems with wedding gown preservation. I had my wedding gown "cleaned, preserved, and repaired" by Continental Gown Cleaners, Inc. I have come to find out that Continental and Prestige are one in the same...

Anyhow, in 1995 I sent my dress to them and received it in a SEALED box. It contained a warranty, but the box MUST REMAINED SEALED or it would be void. I faithfully trusted that my dress was indeed cleaned, repaired and preserved. I left the box sealed until today (9/6/00). I heard a report on the news to "beware" of dry cleaners that want you to keep the box sealed, so I called the phone number on my warranty (1(800)441-GOWN) and they answered the phone as Worldwide Gown Cleaners. So I thought, OK, they changed their name. I was told that Continental was no longer in business and I could open my box and they would reprocess it for a mere $150.00. I opened my box and what did I find? MY DRESS WAS NOT EVEN CLEANED! The repair was NOT done, the stains were still there and to make matters worse, they put metal safety pins through my gown which left little black holes in the fabric!!! I could just vomit! The woman at Worldwide insisted that they have NO affiliation at all with Continental or Prestige. (Yet they have the same number-gee what a coincidence!)

Is there anyone out there who knows what to do from here???

To the individual who wrote this complaint and to any others who might have a similar situation I am sorry that you had such a terrible experience with the most precious memory of your special day. For the record, Worldwide Gown Cleaning & Preservation had and has no connection whatsoever with Continental Gown Cleaners, Prestige Dry Cleaner or any other company in the industry. These two companies were owned by the same individual. When the time came that they could no longer continue operations, they contacted Worldwide and reached out for help, for the benefit of the brides whom were waiting to have their gowns completed. If they closed their doors without a future contact, all of the bride's whose work was completed by these companies would never have assistance again. Those bride's waiting for their gowns to be completed would still be waiting. Worldwide completed the work and was given the toll free phone numbers for the purpose of the bride to be able to speak with someone familiar with the situation. That is why when you called on 9/6/00, you heard "Thank you for calling Worldwide". Don't assume it's the same company if you don't know the facts! There was no name change. The other companies had no choice but to close and our company should be thanked for being a lifeline to those who needed it and to those who will need it. We are one of the most recommended names in Cleaning, Preservation, and Reestoration. As a matter of fact, some other companies in the industry make sure to use the name WORLDWIDE in their tag lines. We were informed about the preservation processes used by these other companies and are able to help those who require unpreservation work today. Unfortunately, we are unable to honor a warranty for another companies work. I sincerely hope that this will let all the nervous brides out there breathe a little easier. Sometimes companies can not continue their operations. It happens to the biggest public companies every day. We at Worlwide Gown Cleaning & Preservation feel that even with the few complaints we hear of regarding these other companies and having to explain the truth about what happened when needed to, it's a good thing we helped out those who needed it and will continue to do so in the future.
