J.K Harris Pd $4000 to save and they actually helped me. BUT.... Charleston South Carolina
I was behind in my Federal taxes due to being self employed for years and every year the amount would snow ball to the point of no return. I went to JK Harris and they said they could do an offer in compromise for me to save me thousands on what I owned.
I had no assets and not much income and showed the IRS I couldnt afford to pay the whole thing. I owed about $29k. The settled for a cash payoff of approx $13k. But I didnt have it to pay so they set up an 8 yr plan of anout 230 per month. totaling around $23k. So they did save me money.
But I owed the state of Maryland which was figured into my $4000 cost of getting the OIC and they were unable to so anything for me. In the process MD said I owed taxes that I had filed already from 91-94. I paid them but had no receipt. It was 12-15 yrs ago. I have receipts up to 10 yrs ago for everything. So I couldnt prove it was paid and because of that I was out of compliance and MD said I was not eligible for an OIC and added thousands of dollars to my tax bill, changing it from 8000 to almost 15k. They immediately put a wage levy on my wife's paycheck.
I have been unable to get it off for over a yr. JK Harris is working to try and get something done as we speak, but who knows. I have heard they dont have much luck with the state of MD. Should I try and get some money back because of no results and them not being able to do an OIC with MD? They should have known I was out of compliance when I tried to set this up because I hadn't filed my MD tax return for 5 or 6 yrs. (They helped me fill them out at that point) MD's law is anything over 2 yrs is not eligible to submit a OIC. Yet it was part of the payment I gave to JKH to do this.
