While searching the internet for a new PC, I made my decision based on a price which was advertised on CompUSA.com.

The item - Compaq SR1950NX was posted for the price of 429.99 after two rebates:

1. $50.00 from HP

2. $120.00 from CompUSA.

The advertised price did not include monitor or printer and was sold as a tower only for the above price. I paid the full price at the store, and received all the necessary paper work for the rebates as they were printed out of the register.

After filling the CompUSA "Erebate" online I received by email an update on the status of my rebate. It stated I did not purchase all the necessary items to qualify for this rebate (Tower, Monitor and printer) and that this rebate was only good towards a purchase of a bundle of the three items together. Yet, on CompUSA website the AD read 429.00 for the tower only after rebates.

After a conversation with corporate customer service which, complimented perfectly the rude and unprofessional personal and management at the store. I went back to the site to investigate their claim and discovered that if I had clicked on the rebate details, I would have discovered that the stand alone price of the tower DID NOT EXIST (Yet was advertised).

I am not how to go about it, but I am sure of the fact that if a company advertises a certain price for a certain product they ought to stand behind it, or get sued for false advertising.

Here is the quote from CompUSA.com

You can clearly see! anyone looking at this ad would have been misled, and that is why this type of advertising IS ILLEGAL.

I know, and mentioned the fact that after digging into the rebate rules, one can see the other requirements. Yet, Advertising a product as a standalone for a specific price without the consumer being able to get that price is misleading, deceiving and ILLEGAL. Please Read this: http://www.oag.state.ny.us/press/2001/apr/apr16a_01.html I found it among countless complaints, law suits and an overall dark history of CompUSA's unfair treatment of the public. I used to think it was my fault of not paying attention, but I am sorry to inform you that after digging into consumer regulations articles, state and federal cases in the matter - I will not seat still because anyone looking at this ad would have been misled, and that is why this type of advertising IS ILLEGAL.

I can clearly see the requirements for the rebate.

I don't think you were looking close enough at the information available to you.

After reading your post here, I went to the CompUSA website and looked for this computer. I had no trouble finding it. $599.00 cash price, but you could save $170.00 in rebates - $120.00 and $50.00. The price is for the tower only.

In order to be elegible for the rebates, you also have to purchase a monitor for the $50.00 rebate; a monitor and printer for the $120.00 rebate. The conditions for each rebate are clearly listed on the rebate forms - which are available by clicking on the "rebate details" link and then looking at each rebate.

It was like you signed a contract without reading all the fine priint.

When you make a purchase, you should make sure to do an in-depth research and read ALL the information about the purchase.

That being said, I will also say that I don't like how they have this - because you actually have to dig it out. But it is there nevertheless.
