Complaint Review: CompUSA - Webster Texas

Here is how it went:

01. They sold me a defective computer on an open box special.

02. I brought it back two days later and they asked me if I purchased the extended warranty. I said NO...

03. They told me that there was nothing they could do for me.

04. Their return policy is to exchange the defective computer for an exact same item or refund your money.

05. I asked for my money back but if you read the return policy carefully you will see that it says that they will only give you $250.00 back in cash and the rest ten days later in check.

06. Then I called their customer service, in Mexico since it is a company owned by a Mexican cartel, and they said to tell the manager Mr. Buckles to give me an exact item exchange.

07. I told them and they said that they would lose money if they did that.

I wrote them a demand notice like the state law says to do and they blow me off. So I filed a petition.

08. They hired a mega-law firn, Jenkens & Gilchrist, who then called the police on me and had me thrown out of a big office building. Then they used all kinds of law connections to have the case thrown out and charge me their legal fees of $17,000.00.

SO NEXT TIME YOU THINK ABOUT COMPUSA...THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPENED TO ME. IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU IF YOU COMPLAIN TO THEM. DO A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET AND YOU WILL FIND A LOT OF COMPUSA HORROR STORIES....DON'T BE ONE OF THEM.

Yes, CompUSA has a policy like many other retailers stating that returns in excess of $250 will be sent via check. However, the CompUSA employee may need to "get their facts straight before posting". In 2000, Compusa was formally taken off the Public stock exchange and went private after "Mexican" conglomerate Grupo Sanborns aquired CompUSA for about $798 million. In other words, CompUSA may have its headquarters in Dallas, TX but it is still owned by a Mexican Cartel :) If you don't believe me still, ask your Warehouse Manager where he/she ships refurbed/return units that won't sell and arent accepted back by the manufacturer. BTW, hope you weren't at one of the 15 stores they just closed :p

How did a computer that sells for $600-$3000, depending on quality, end up costing you a $17K Judgement? There has to be a whole bunch more to this story. I owed a credit card company nearly $10K. It ended up with a $1500 Attorney fee/Court costs added on. That's a fraction of the amount owed. How did yours end up being anywhere from 6-30 times the cost of the asset?

Ok, you got a bad computer. You took it back and they offered you a refund in full! That's not good enough for you, so you try legal action and it backfires. As far as getting thrown out of a 'big office building', you sound like you were arrogant, rude and threatening, and they had you removed from the premises. Then they had to defend themselves against your 'petition', and since they had initially offered to refund your money, you lost the case. Where's the ripoff?

First, I would doubt that you truly talked to CompUSA Corporate, as they are located in Dallas Texas, verifiable at CompUSA.com, Secondly, it is company policy for all refunds greater than $250 to be issued by a company check, this is in order to ensure that adequate cash is on hand at all times in the stores. Thirdly, CompUSA is an american company, owned by Americans, not Mexicans.... So Please, check your facts before posting... Thank You!

Your post does not have enough specific information. Using your numbering system, lets look at your points: 1) You always take a chance whenever you purchase any "open box" item. 2) 3) and 4) CompUSA would not be under any obligation to fix the computer if you had not purchased a warranty from them. They are only obligated to either refund your money or exchange it for an item of the exact same thing. This is common in almost any retail store. The refund/return policy for CompUSA is printed very well on the receipts as well as posted in their stores. 5) CompUSA is not the only store that has this polcy on refunds, most stores do. They cannot be expected to have large amounts of cash that is not secure in a safe, whereas the employees would not have access to. Cuts down on thefts and losses. 6) I would like to know how you can substantiate the claim that CompUSA is owned by a cartel? CompUSA's corporate office is located in DALLAS Texas. Last time I looked, that was good ol USofA. If I am not mistaken....CompUSA is on the stock market.....which would not allow for it being owned by a cartel. I think at this point in your post you are spouting things that you shouldn't. Please stay with FACTS. I understand you are not happy with them......but do not interject badmouthing like this. 7) I have no comment on this item. 8) Of course they are going to hire a law firm to defend against the petition you filed. Here is where your post is lacking much information. Exactly why did they call the police on you? What were you charged with? What big office building did they "throw" you out of? What was the reason you lost your case? In addition to this, I would like to ask you why you think that CompUSA should treat you any different than any of their other customers? When the policies are clearly posted and printed and you make a purchase, you are indedd agreeing to those policies. You cannot justify going back afterward and trying to change something only because that is what you want.
