I was shopping in this store one day and it was extremely hot in the store. I mean people were complaining left and right and taking off jackets and even leaving the store because of the heat. It wasn't just uncomfortable, it was MISERABLE.

So, not realizing there was a no refund return policy, I chose to not try on clothes in the store, but to just get a couple of things that looked like they'd fit. I even said as much to the clerk. Although at checkout, the clerk did say they had called several times to try to get the heat problem resolved, but she did not mention the no refund policy.

Because one outfit of the 3 I bought did not fit, I went back for a refund of that ONE outfit. They pointed to the return policy, hanging about 10 feet above our heads and said it was clearly visible that there were no refunds. They then gave me a card for credit in the amount of purchase, but I felt they should have refunded my money under the circumstances. And the sign being up that high is ridiculous.

I even called their Corporate office and was told the NEVER refund any money. Period. I was even HUNG UP ON when I was persistent. This company is behind the times with regard to return policy and they are ripping people off. Furthermore, the people who represent this company highly unprofessional and these people should not be rewarded for their business practices by our patronage. I personally will never shop there again. I hope you won't either.

I am an employee of Burlington, I am not in management. So I really have nothing to gain from responding about the complain about the location of the sign. It is true that the return policy is not to accept exchanges without the receit before or after 30 days. This is because merchandise can be stolen from Burlington and then returned later to get the money by crooked individuals. So just think of this before you start complaining about this policy. These policies are in place to protect the consumers by keeping the prices on merchandise as cheap as possible. All companies would prefer not to have policies that angry customers but what opition do they have when there is so many dishonesty individuals that ruin it for the rest of us who are honesty. I understand that you have a real issue when it comes to the dress being bad and of no use to you. I have had the same problem with things that I have bought and had to return but have always known the return policy of the company that I bought it from ahead of time. I returned a s****.. As for sign placement concerning the return and exchange policy it makes no difference where the sign is at. Burlington Reno has had them on the registers at check out on the walls faceing customers. Now they are hanging from the ceiling as is the one where you shop. But It would not matter if they were right in front of you, people don't read things while shopping. As an example of this when the employees are on their break in the break room and clocked out from being on duty. They are constantly asked to get up from the break room and walk out side to show a customer the sign on the restroom door that explains how to gain access to the restroom. Another policy of Burlington is that customers must be bussed into the restroom by a cashier at the front of the store who has to stop ringing up customers to check a monitor to see if the person she is bussing into the restroom is attempting to enter with merchandise which they will put on under the clothes they wore into the store. A sign is right in the middle of the door that states Attention customer: To gain access to the restroom Push the red door bell above the drinking fountain. Wait for the door to buss then push on the door. Do not push on the door handle. push on the door ONLY. Guess how many people don't read the sign at all? Guess how many people grab the handle and yank on it? Guess how many people push on the door before it busses? Guess how many people go to the employee break room and ask for the key to get in? Guess how many people send their 5 year old kid by themselves? Guess how many times during a 15 minute break an employee would have to get up to help someone enter the restroom? But all of this could be avoided if only people would take responsiblity to check things out before making a decision and taking an ill advised action. I believe that the lady that got the wrong size dress could have avoid this entire incident if she had the girls try the dresses on before her purchase. Coming back to the store and making out like the store is responsible for her not taking the time to check the size would fit properly is no ones fault but hers. As a man I don't spend anymore time shopping that I have to as it is not my favorite activity. However if I go to buy a shoe, a pair of pants a shirt a coat I always try it on first before I purchase the item. If I see something I like for my wife I don't buy it until I have her come in and try it on to make sure it fits even though by doing so means that by the time she gets there it might be sold. 1) In retrospect, you should've tried the clothing on. Especially in the case of Burlington's well known no cash back return policy. 2) The return policy is not only on the sign, it is on the back of your receipt. 3) It is not the cashier's responsibility to state the return policy to the many customer's that come through the store in a given day, especially when the info is available in more than 1 place.

I purchased an outfit for my three year old daughter for Christmas out of the Bangor, Maine store three week before the holiday. I live two hours away from the store in a small Downeast Maine village. A few days after Chrismtas I realized that the outfit was too small for her. The following week I went to to EXCHANGE the outfit. I did not want a refund, only an exchange. After spending about an hour looking around and finding a suitable replacement outfit I returned to the customer service desk. The lady told me that the outfit was no longer $12.99 but instead on sale for $9.99 and I had to pay the difference. I told her I have my receipt showing I paid $12.99. She told me where it was over 30 days I had no choice but to accept only $9.99 for it. I will NEVER shop at BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY ever again. They ripped me off. This was the biggest $3.00 mistake they probably have ever made. Im glad I found this site so that I can tell the world about their foolish policies. Oh and by the way, the back of the receipt only says, no returns after 30 days. Very unhappy in Maine, Bob
