I worked at Gateway when the name change happened. During a major phase of change coming up on Y2K, the company switched from Gateway 2000 to just 'Gateway', because obviously keeping the 2000 would be a bit messy. Technically, and for the sake of business trademarks, they still own both names. They may only use Gateway now, but it isn't like another company came along and swiped the Gateway 2000 name. As such, I believe the company named in this complaint is incorrect. That's the old corporate home office (since moved to the San Diego area, or so I thought) of Gateway, and I think it's pretty clear they aren't involved in this. You spoke with a SCAM ARTIST. From what I read (although I'm no expert) this is a common identity theft practice. How would Gateway or -any- legitimate company get your SSN? Gateway is a shell of it's former self, now primarily dedicated to retail sales of E-Machines and 'Gateway' computers built by E-Machines, but they'd have no reason to engage in this kind of felony activity.
