Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My girlfriend brought me to Cooperstown for my birthday this weekend (March 17-19). She made the reservation for us to stay at a Bed & Breakfast for Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th one month before the date. She garaunteed the first night's stay by providing her credit card number over the phone. She never signed an agreement of any sort and was not told that if she did not fulfill the two night reservation that her deposit (one full night's stay) would be forfeited.

When we arrived on the 17th, they treated us with disregard from the start. It turns out that this place was made for 50+ (not officially, but quite apparent), and we were not welcome. This place was a lot more conservative than we had planned, but we decided to stay for the ambiance. We are both smokers, and when I realized that my girlfriend had not requested a smoking room I went down the stairs (we were on the third floor) to remedy the situation. When I mentioned the desire to change rooms (we had been in the room for officially 2 minutes) he was EXTREMELY rude. He gave me an attitude - when I asked what the problem was, he ostensibly shook his head with a smirk and said, "nothing." After making me stand there for about 10 minutes while he stared at the same sheet of paper, he finally admitted to allowing us stay in another room. When he brought us there (still acting INCREDIBLY rude) he made it a point to tell us of the impending smokers' room disappearance. Not that we ever asked him for his opinion or his comment, but he felt the incredible obligation to tell us nonetheless.

We felt VERY uncomfortable throughout our stay and did not feel welcome at all. So, we decided to stay somewhere else on the night of March 18th. When we went to checkout, not only were they once again rude, but told us that they had been turning people away due to our reservation. This was a load of horse s#*t, because I saw a NUMBER of vacancies all over the building. So, they told us they were going to charge us for the night's stay. So, despite the fact that we already paid $108.62 for one night, they charged our credit card another $108.62 for the night of March 18th. Unfortunately, I was not thinking and signed the credit card receipt out of anger. I just wanted to get out of there. Absolutely ridiculous to charge us for a room we did not stay in. We would have gladly paid a penalty of $20 or $30 to get out of that hell hole so that we could enjoy our vacation, but they charged us over a HUNDRED dollars! When we didn't even stay there! We want our money back. It's not even an issue of the money. We just don't want those bastards taking over $200 of our money for one terrible night's stay in their hotel! Here's their info: The Inn at Cooperstown, 16 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown, NY 13326-1041.

Please help.
