I will keep this short, although this story so far is dated back to May 7th, 2005 and still has not been resloved. Here is the jist of it.

I took my car in to get serviced because the A/C stopped working as well as the 2 power windows. I told them to fix both windows as well as the A/C. My car is wrecked with only cosmetic damage in the front and they said it would not be under warrenty for the A/C.

They hooked up a machine to diagnose the problem. I did pick it up that night, and they had warrentied both the windows AND the A/C, stating that it was a manufacturer's defect, having nothing to do with a consumer issue.

Everything seemed to be in working order, except they only fixed the driver's side window. (ERROR #1). So of course I had to take it back to get the window fixed. They had it on file that I told them to only fix the driver's side window. False documentation on their part.

The next day after that, my A/C stopped working again. So again I had to take my car in. This is trip number 3! I called them at 4pm to ask them if my car would be ready. They said they had the machine hooked up again to it to see what was wrong, and there was a small leak they could not find. So if it wasn't ready by 5 they would get me a rental.

When I showed up at 5, Dan, the service manager at the time for me told me that they would not fix my car because when I had previous work done on my A/C, they had put stop leak in. Therefore, I had lost all warranty on the car and that I had ruined their $5000 machine because of this and to never bring my car for A/C work again to their shop.

I was so confused. I told Dan that I had never had work done on my A/C. He told me it didn't matter and they were going to put it back together unfixed and don't bring it back. I called my Father and told him the story. When I told him that I had never had work done on my A/C except for Courtesy Chev, I saw Dan laughing. I told my Dad that Dan was laughing at me. Dan said he wasn't laughing AT me, but at my blatant lies.

Then my car was ready to go, unfixed and asked me to leave. I told him that I was on the phone with my Dad who was on the Phone with our mechanic in Montana who is a licensed Chev. mechanic for the state of Montana and that I didn't have our mechanic in Montana's permission to leave yet.

So our mechanic while I was on the phone, called Courtesy. They didn't say much to him. Our mechanic in Montana, we'll call him Mark, said that he thinks since the first time I brought it in, it didn't harm the machine and the car was warrantied stating there was nothing wrong with it; he said that someone at Courtesy probably put the stop leak in their to get the car done fast and the A/C stopped working with a film showing up because of the stop leak the second time.

I asked to speak to a manager but was refused because Dan told me that the manager was furious and wouldn't speak to me.

I left the dealer with no A/C. I filed a report with GM and they concluded that it was not their fault and they would do nothing to fix the car. This was after waiting for several promised calls from GM customer service. I did have to call them back to learn that information. And GM said they took it as high in the ladder as it could go.

I have been without A/C for 2 months because of their faults of saying they had nothing to do with it. 2 points proving it was not me: the first machine they hooked up, nothing happened to it, but the second machine, *the same machine* was ruined the second time a week later after being hooked up. Also, they warrantied my car. When they warrantied it the first time, they were saying there was NO defect except something with the manufacturer and they fixed the A/C.

How can a company go back on something. I told Dan this, and he told me that they warrentied out of a good will offering. Good will or not, they warrantied it!

So that is the SHORT version. There was much more interaction and since I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, 3 on Your Side, and the Consumer Protection Agency, all under lawyer's advice. And I have been in contact with the lawyer as to the next step once those have been settled.

Feel free to add to your horror stories at Courtesy Chevrolet.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!

Is there really stop leak in there?

#2Consumer Suggestion

That's the first thing to do, go to an independent mechanic and have them check. If not, maybe the dealer is trying to get rid of you because they're losing money not being able to find the leak. They use it as a convenient excuse to void their warranty. If there is, where did it come from? Must have been the dealer if you are SURE that no one else has worked on it. They may not have noticed the stop leak the first time because all the refrigerant was gone out of your car; there was no pressure to push the stop leak out into their machine. The second time, there was. It's expensive to get rid of stop leak because all the parts of the system have to be thoroughly cleaned or replaced. That stuff is a total disaster, very rarely actually stops a leak but it will almost certainly stop up everything else. When there is crash damage to the front of the car, the condenser is a prime place to leak because it is mounted right up front.
